Adding Trees as Static Objects to mission Editor?

Recommended Posts

Not that I know of.

Why would you want trees near your airbase? I mean I know they're not collidable in-sim, but still... Plus birds like trees, and generally one tries to discourage birds from hanging out at the local airbase.

right, but first and foremost, most airbases are covered by woods to hide "stuff" from view..also there are many places in A-10C where trees or small woods are missing..trust me you'll like it when i figure out how to add tress as "static" Objects..

Not in much of the world. In fact as nomdeplume alluded to, generally airbases in most parts of the world are kept free of trees and other vegetation to reduce potential issues with birds and FOD in general.

Some old cold war bases are different, because of the way they were built, and the thinking of the time. But for the most part they are the exception.

Allright, i could go into my Folder now and show you tons of pics bout Airbase that are surrounded by woods but anyway..I just want a lil more trees/woods , maybe palm trees and all that cause i still work on my California Landscape mod..and i'm in cali every year so i know how it looks..Back to the Topic, I figured out how to add some Trees to the Static Object List but they are not visible in game..cause this was something what was working with FC2 but probably not wth A-10C

anyway it seems like that the Files db_countries.lua & db_units_ground.lua in Script/Database are important..

I also figured out that every Objects got his own CLSID code , Trees and Woods seems like to be called Alleya and trees, but how can i get the CLSID code from those trees and alleyas?

somebody with me to figure it out? ED can you help me here??

ok, only thing that works so far is when i replace the EDM Model of the konteiners with Tree rows for example, so when i place a konteiner as a static Object it will place a formation of trees...not the best solution but its something..i still don't need no konteiners haha..

Take a quick look at the airbases featured in DCS on Google maps ;). You'll find most of them are not surrounded by woodland. In fact many of them are surrounded by urban areas and/or low lying farmland.

You can't use photos of airbase x as a basis for the surroundings of airbase y and z. Espeically if they aren't in the country, let alone regoin.

And just for a bit of perspective, in 12 years of working on airbases, I've never seen one that's "surrounded by" trees. Are there airbases that have large woodlands areas around their perimeter? Of course, but you seem to be thinking this is the norm, it isn't.

But of course this is not to deminish what you are trying to do regarding makes a mod to the sim. I would say that I suspect that adding trees by way of mission editor objects might cause issues, after all trees are meant to be part of the terrain, and anyone not having such a mod installed may experience issues in any missions made using such a mod.

If you want specific help regarding producing a mod, I suggest you post in the mod forum. ;)

ok, like i've sayed, i could post enough pics..at least, there are more woods near the bases that i know..but anyway..no disrespect but i'm not much into the russian landscape, i also don't like the weathered and very old looking bases..i'm more into a california kind of Landscape and if I could, i would change the City Names in DCS to names from GTA San Andreas, some fictional stuff also if I could..I love Flying, flight physics and all that...but I think everybody should do what he want to do..and if I want to increase the Detail of something..then there's nothing wrong about it.

Please don't refer to NEVADA now which comes...Lord knows..I just like modding thats it..

uhm, and please don't tell me this thread is closed..please move it to the DSC mod forum..cause I'm not much into writing all this again..if you did so..thanks a lot

Elmendorf and Lakenheath spring to mind.

We have an entire forest on Lakenheath. There's a bajillion Rooks all around, I'm amazed we don't have bird strike problems. Never seen one at this base, maybe they're smart enough to avoid the runway.

I have been to a bunch of different bases that has tons of trees around them and on them. I have also been to bases where there weren't much trees.

Bases with lots of trees

Elmendorf, Alaska

Eielson, Alaska

Anderen, Guam

Barksdale, Louisiana

Bases with little trees

Luke, Arizona

Davis-Monthan, Arizona

Travis, California

One of the bases in Japan

Nellis, Nevada

Mountain Home, Idaho

Williams, Arizona <--not a active base anymore

Sheppard, Texas

Gila Bend, Arizona <---auxiliary base

Guard and Reserve bases

March, California<--no trees

Savannah, Georgia <--lots of trees

Fresno, California <--some trees

Sky Habor, Arizona <--no trees

Aside from the fact of how trees are modeled with respect to their impact on AI, the ability to place a forest to act as a hiding spot for enemy infantry could be a useful asset to mission builders.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

at least the Topic is going back to my Question

"How can I add different Tree/Alleya Rows to my Mission Editor Static Object list???"

Why is nobody from ED answering this Question?? is this a Secret?? is it Hard coded and nobod should know it..whats the Point?? I mean I got a very bussy life so I'm not much into figuring it out myself when i play around with all those lua scripts...when its impossible because its hardcoded then ED should tell me so..

Ok, I figured it out how to Add all kinds of Objects to the Mission Editor Static drop down list. They also work in Game, 2 Major Problems still remain

1: When I place Trees, they appear beaneath the Ground and just the Top of many Trees is visible

2: The missing satelitte View for the Mission Editor (where I can see my placed Objects) is still missing, I would almost say its impossible to Build Deep missions with this Sim, going allmost Mad just to place a few things correctly..I really thought ED would fix it after FC2..

I guess you can do it the same way we did in LFC2, with the same problems. You add a row of trees and it HAS to be either a Red side row of trees or a Blue side row of trees, because each object is allocated from a host country list of objects.

So you add a Blue side row of trees, and any red aircraft that try to land at that airfield will divert to the nearest airfield that does not have a Blue tree on it

Buildings and trees should be neutral, but they aint so nobody bothers to be creative in that respect.

In LFC2 i built a few maps with certain airfields added to as either Blue or Red, and I'm stuck with that, it looks great but is totally unrealistic.

Give up mate, it isn't worth the effort involved. Nothing you can do about that as far as I know, so why bother.
