S77th-GOYA Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 If I set this to medium instead of high, what changes? I want all the high res skins to be 1024x1024 but not at the cost of things that don't cause me trouble. The problem is mainly with the MiGs. They kill my frames, but I've also had trouble with F-15s. And of course F-18s, but I don't see them much online.
Kula66 Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Well, I dropped from High to Med to try and speed up 1.1 ... and haven't noticed much difference in detail ... cockpits side panels got a bit more blurry ... I guess you have to try it and see!
355th_Paulie Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I have settings on med/high, accompanied with some of Mr. Pilotasso's tweaks, as he has a simular rig to mine, and find the huge profit from increased fps, put the maybe less appealing external view to the background. If I want to make screenshots, I just turn about everything up again. :D
SuperKungFu Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Yea with the texture in med, you could clearly tell the objects are a lot blurry. maybe not the plane you are flying due to the hi-res skin, but the AI aircraft looks like a piece of crap. especially the C-17. Try it, set it down to med and go for the quick mission of the Su-27 and check out the C-17. Damn that's one ugly bird that wants to be shot down  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
S77th-GOYA Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 So, I guess there's no easy, non-crappy way to reduce the resolution of skins. Oh well. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding keeping frame rates up with MiGs in the area?

wolf8218 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 trust me the models arent slowing you down its the effects such as the heat blur, advanced fog, cockpit scratches/reflections, mirrors, smoke contrails, grount impacts. texture settings should be left to high.
S77th-GOYA Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 Trust me, when I'm near a MiG, my frames drop.
SuperKungFu Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Maybe its due to the hi-res skin you applied on the MiG. What is the resolution for it and what is your rig? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
S77th-GOYA Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 Maybe its due to the hi-res skin you applied on the MiG. What is the resolution for it and what is your rig? I only have the default skins. They already are highres. 2048x2048. AMD 2500+ Mobile OCed to 2.4Ghz, 6800 vanilla with a decent OC, 1 G good ram. Settings: textures high scenes high civ traff off heat blur off water medium advanced haze shadows active planar vis ring medium cockpit reflections off no mirrors
Prophet_169th Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Maybe there is a lower res skin available to load up for the MiG?
S77th-GOYA Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 Yes, there are 1024x1024 skins available for the MiG. I would have to install a lower res skin for each default skin option. Playing online, unless the mission is classified, users get to choose their skin. There's also the problem of CDDS compatability. Honestly, I'm not sure that the problem lies with hi res skins at all. I'm guessing it is because I didn't have this problem with 1.02. I only know that if I'm within a few miles of a MiG, my frames drop like panties on prom night.
