All of the US/Canada box assets are ready to go for duplication. We are now waiting for our distributor (Jack of All Games) to make the sell-in into various retail outlets. Despite what some might think, getting retail outlets to carry a game (particularly a flight sim) can be quite difficult and take a long time. It is out of our hands at this time. If it were solely up to us, it would have been in US/Canadian retail long ago.

I believe this is very possible, especially since companies are selecting DD as their preferred method of distribution. I can only guess that this is due to a higher profit margin and when the switch is 100%, there will be less to spend

Not only do they make a higher profit margin with less printing and distribution costs (although as previously discussed the costs of running a server can be very high anyway), DD also allows companies to get the product to market quicker because nowadays the "final" version of software isn't really final, as there are almost always planned patches before it's even released. In general this isn't a bad thing, because people always hate waiting for things and want everything right away. But for me with my capped internet (right now its maxing out at I think 64 kb/s or maybe 128 kb/s until the 14th ) and busy schedule I'd be happy just to wait the extra time. But if getting the product to market quicker allows smaller companies like ED to be able to do business then I'm all for it :)

SPECS: Intel Core i5 760 @ 3.2 Ghz +turboboost enabled, 12 GB DDR3 1600 @ 1500 Mhz, ATI Radeon 5850, TrackIR 5, X52 Pro and Saitek pedals

Pretty much, it will be available WHEN IT IS READY.

And not a moment before...

The thing is, it is ready, Wags confirmed that. What's holding things up is the distributor trying to get retail outlets to stock the game.

Best way to get the retail game available is to start asking the retail shops around you why they aren't stocking it. Ask multiple stores, talk to the managers not just the clerks, send emails to parent companies and that kind of thing.

Exactly right!

Shelf-space and warehouse space is expensive, so the stores won't stock just about anything that comes their way. Since this is a niche market, they might not even know that there is anyone out there that actually wants to buy it - if the first thing they hear about it is a hopeful rep from a distributor they might go into it feeling very suspicious; but if they've heard talk about it from down the line, with potential customers leaving the store after being informed that the game isn't in stock... Then the stories that come up the chain of command will be stories of lost sales, and that usually does get their attention. ;)

u.s. boxed version

specter, you and i think exactly alike about wanting physical boxed versions of PC game softwares. due to the current difficulty of finding physical pc disks, i go out of my way to locate pc games on disk. whoever has a pc game disk i want gets my business.

plus i hate the idea of cloud computing too.

i really miss the older days of pc gaming where i could go into a store and leave with several boxed pc games with huge manuals that i could read when i'm not on the pc. i don't read novels, better to read pc game manuals instead.

oh, i hate console games too. pc gaming offers more 'depth' and feel to the gaming experience than do consoles. i love micromanaging a squad of soldiers, robots or what not than mashing the buttons on a stupid game pad.

if u ever want to play online, maybe we can friend up and play?

thanks for listening.

cannot wait for the warthog game disk!

Not to beat a dead horse, but suppose a publisher saves $10 per copy by going DD (I use a hybrid between the $4 and half the cost of the game for sake of argument). That's $10 more they can pump into development, and from what I see when playing DCS, that $10 is well spent indeed.

As for the topic of the OP I can't offer any info that hasn't been offered, but I can agree that there was something special about sitting in [red] traffic lights with the manual in hand because I couldn't even wait to complete my drive home. I forsaked those old days when Steam caught my attention with some quite good deals. Plus I don't even have to enter a mall (that's a plus in my book any day).

A special edition box set with printed stuff/other baubles would be quite sweet. Maybe it's not realistic, but I think it would entice people who have already bought the DD to purchase another copy, not to mention first-timers.

Nice to know I'm not the only one left that still likes what I like and willing to wait for it.

As for the online thing, sorry, I've never been big on online gaming. I think X-Wing was the 1st time I tried it, then it was some F-15 Sim but just could not get hooked. I've even tried Americas Army 2 & 3 but I only seem to enjoy the training courses, LOL :joystick:

I understand your point and I agree that the extra money they save should go into development but for those companies (like DCS), that sell both DD and boxed sets, I still have a problem paying the same amount for both. With other companies as an example, in one hand I'd have a box, DVD and Manual. In the other hand I have Data on my Hard Drive and the option to burn my own copy with my own DVD Burner and Disk.

At time of purchase, I do not decide based on sympathy, thinking which I should buy that would allow the company more profit that might go back into development. I compare my choices and consider what I'll really get for my money. Physical items in hand will always beat out virtual items, especially when I am expected to buy DVD-Rs and take the time to burn them and hope it's a good burn.

Yes, I loved those manuals that discussed more than just how to play the Sim. Loved reading the history and checking out all the pics. For this Sim, I'll accept the PDF file, only because no company is going to print a 700+ page manual just for a Sim.

Specter, a suggestion: if you have business downtown and pass through an area with a "brick and mortar" game store, head in there real quick and ask them about stocking the game. The more they hear that people are interested, the quicker the distributor will be able to make the sell-in, and the quicker you'll be able to get it. :)

If the response you get is that they will carry it, consider asking them if you can pre-order; that will really ring it home that there's interest and might make this process go faster next time. :)

Interesting. It hasn't popped up on my account, based on my shopping history, and it does not seem to search well but for $39.99 I went ahead and ordered it.

We will see what happens when they email me with more information.

Thanks for the tip.

EDIT: Of course, it also looks like they reset their website and some of my history as well when they upgraded.

Also interesting is the company Visco Entertainment. The have four products (all games) on Amazon. The closest they get to having an actual product to ship is one that ships in 1 to 4 weeks. The other three are not currently available though you can place orders for two of them.:music_whistling:

I feel suspicious about this Visco Entertainment entity. They're not mentioned on any official site for any game they're selling there, and their website is... odd.

Of course, might just be a "mom-n-pop e-tailer" but... It's odd.
