New SIM - World of planes MMO

Indeed looks promising!

I signed up for the beta, but so far no response.

I really really hope this isn't subscription based though.!

If it's like the World of Tanks game, it's a Free To Play game where you can get additional advantages through purchasing gold.

Apparently, there's also a World of Battleships game on the way.

I signed up a while ago. Still no response. Just have to wait and see.

This is NOT made by the world of tanks company. They are also making a mmo called http://www.worldofwarplanes.com really close names but not the same game.

Ooooh! Thanks. That's really confusing with both claiming to be MMO's. :D

It's exciting too. The more people interested in flying the better. Maybe one in a hundred want to fly something more complex. That's one more to join DCS.

A sim-lite game where we don't have to worry about dedicated servers and can have people actually online sounds like a fun diversion from high end sims like DCS.

Wings Of Prey actually ran very fluid and looked great. It was lacking so many needed features that it just couldn't work as a stand alone game. Incorporating it into an MMO though might be really good fun tho.

Just depends on how they present it. If it's Free To Play like the World Of tanks model, then it will probably see some initial success (no prediction on any long-term). If it's subscription to play, then they better have it chock full of amazing content or it will probably fail.

Watching this one as well as World Of Warplanes and Warships :D

I'm mainly interested in the Warships one, tbh. World of Tanks is sort of fun - it's nice with the 15-minute match format, so you can play a round when you have 15 minutes until a meeting or something like that, where most other games simply wouldn't be an option. But if the do Warships right it might become pretty cool - I've always wanted a "light" battleship game with some oomph in the gameplay. :)

You can believe it?????? We need a hardcore cold war (60´s to 1990) simulator.

 Absolutely!!! This is a big era in combat aviation with LOTS of interesting airctafts. It's a shame that there's no decent SIM covering that period. (Strike Fighters, Wings over Vietnam/Europe/Israel are kinda OK, but still far from the decent realism).

Aircraft from that era relied heavily on their electronics suite for combat employment. Older aircraft relised on manual skills.

I seriously doubt that hardware for both client and server could handle what would basically be a LOMAC MMO. Anything less than LOMAC would be considered too arcade (aka HAWX). A LOMAC-style MMO would seriously rock, but I doubt we'll see it anytime soon.

Im sorry but isnt lomac and DCS already a MMO? How many people have to be on a server to be MMO? What am I missing? Not a WOW guy and have no MMO experience. Thought it just stood for Massively Multiplayer online game?

An MMO is different from a regular multiplayer game. An MMO has a persistent world that continues to exist and evolve even when you log off. See WWII Online, for example.

With DCS A-10C all we can fly are missions. We can't fly campaigns, that slowly evolve, even if you don't happen to be playing at the moment (like WWIIOL and WoW). And each individual person is responsible for hosting or joining a hosted server. There is no central server farm that all multiplayer clients connect to.

Where there multiplayer hosted Dynamic Campaigns in Falcon 4? I can't seem to remember, but if there were, then that was a true 'MMO sim'.

That's from the makers of World Of Tanks.

World Of Planes is from the makers of Wings Of Prey.

Looking forward to seeing how both turn out though. Could be fun on both fronts :)

Wings Of Prey looked and ran great. It wasn't a simulator, but it definitely had alot of environmental and graphical immersion factors going for it. The matchmaking gameplay hurt it tremendously though as did the lack of a mission editor. MM is good for an MMO where you're building a character or pilot career.

I think World Of Warplanes will stick primarily to the gameplay model set forth by World Of Tanks to where it can be played primarily in 3rd person. Which is fine for the structure model that follows World Of Tanks.

For World Of Planes though, having an MMO that is TrackIR ready and can support ultra-side screen resolutions while having a stunning environment and some sim-lite flight models in a team vs team dogfight arena....that's gonna be fun too :D

Dang, gonna have TOO much to choose from lol! DCS series (hopefully w/ compatibility patch), World Of tanks, World Of Warplanes, World Of Warships, World Of Planes, BMS (If I can get an exe since I parted way with my discs years ago), IL-2 COD as it gets patched up.....

Alot of choices LOL!
