Incredible... Nah... Pretty, sure, but not incredible. The glaring difficulties with reality (which is fair enough for an action game) take away all and more of the immersion I'd get from the prettiness. But that's just me. :P

I lost count on how many missiles they fired. The sounds were pretty good, but I'm sure it's gonna be like HawX.

The difference is, in Hawx you don't fly over your hangar every time you shoot six missiles, or turn constantly to avoid getting autokilled. That stuff wasn't happening in the video here because it was single player, but there were pretty large differences in the gameplay between bad company single and multiplayer, which is where many people spend most of their time. I doubt you will be able to fly in the clouds like that in conquest mode, but it would be cool if you could.

Jet gameplay will be more fun in Battlefield 3 if they fix the part where there are 10 people doing nothing but team killing in the hangars, waiting for the other jets to crash. For the most part, if I want to fly, I'll play DCS. If I'm playing Battlefield, its to shoot guns, but having player provided air support adds to the fun, so I'm glad they have it.

The only incredible thing was the sound.

But I had to cringe at all the unrealistic stuff in there.

Nonetheless BF3 will be a very nice game. Quick fix action game and hell, it's got jets, so! :D

Tis the problem when you have 2 jets on the team and 32 players. IMO, they need to make modern version of the Battle of Coral Sea where the carrier spawned something like 24 aircraft per team.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

I remember when BF was about multiplayer not this scripted stuff. Who wants to play a campaign in a BF game?..not me anyway. They should put 100% of their effort into multilayer, that was made 1942 so revolutionary, it broke the mould in every way possible.

Also, looks like you rely quite a lot on panning your head around with the hat switch etc. You can guarantee they still wont include TrackIr support though.

I'm finding it very hard not to be cynical about BF3. EA and Dice are just so predictable. The best aerial combat these Devs ever got close to was dog fighting in Desert Combat... and that wasnt even their work.

Well there is that same 100% multiplayer in there, Dratsa. Not sure what you mean.

The aircraft footage is indeed from the SP campaign and therefore does not depict the multiplayer gameplay.

BF was and still is all about multiplayer.

That was the back seat though. The non-pilot seats in Battlefield always control head motion (and everything else) with the mouse, not the joystick. This is exactly the same as the F-15E in Battlefield 2, except now you are controlling air to air missiles instead of air to ground. (although I have shot down a few fighters with with those AGMs)

Its not going to be a "HAWX" game because jets are not the primary focus. The point of battlefield has always been to have a full combined arms "battle" experience like ARMA, but with a more casual level of realism to appeal to a wider audience. When you are flying, it is mostly to provide close air support to other players since most of the battle is happening on the ground. This should be obvious since BF3 is going to include both the A-10 and Su-39, but no dedicated air superiority fighters. The point of HAWX and Ace Combat on the other hand is to blow up every single thing in the entire world with 120 magic missiles. If you want more jet realism than BF, just play ARMA. If you want more realism than that, play FC2 or DCS!

Ahh so it is. didnt notice it was back seat. I still doubt they will add TiR support though, even though natural point say it would a a perfect game for it and are happy to help EA implement it.

That's marketing talking. ;)

Personally, I wouldn't even think about using my TIR in any BF game because the pace it too high.

One second you're in a cockpit where TIR would be nice, the other you're dead waiting for a respawn timer to tick down and start as a soldier again where the old adagium of mouse and keyboard still reigns.

Now you could switch the TIR on and off of course by mapping a convenient key, but I doubt I will adapt to TIR in a BF game at all.

I have no doubt BF3 is going to be just as popular and as fun as BFBC2 or, as most PC players have been craving for; BF2. All the signs are there and I personally have seen nothing yet to think otherwise. Only the new music.... gawd that music! :helpsmilie: Awful, at least in the trailers with that overdriven noise. ;)

Most of the videos I suspect are SP trailers, which makes sense, because they have been rather big about changing the BF experience with BF3.

In BFBC1 and 2 there already was a fun (but short) SP campaign and they aim to expand that in BF3.

So basically you get two games in one box; the new SP experience (which is not that new, but more a wink to Call of Duty) and the awesome, teamplay, multiplayer experience, now also with jets again, just like the big old BF2 had. :D :joystick:

Will I be using my WH HOTAS? No, of course not!

Mouse and keyboard FTW! Yes, even in the jets and the helos. :book:

The reason I doubt they will include TrackIR has nothing to do with how appropriate it is for the game or technical issues involved with integration or support. It almost certainly has to do with game balance. The devs were highly against even incorporating widescreen resolutions in Battlefield 2 because it would increase the field of view for people using wider screens. As long as everyone has their heads fixed forward, no one has an advantage from special hardware. Personally I do not think the implications of game balancing should be taken to that extreme, but I have a bias for realism > balance.

Well said sir.

Although the game might include these aircraft, EA said that you will be able to customize your aircraft for whatever you see fit. If you want to make it all A2A with flares and what not, you can equip it that way, if you want A2G you can have that. So in essence, you can have a dedicated air superiority fighter.

But you guys got to admit though....even though Its no where close to DCS realism.....considering how big the maps are...and how much there is in the game...its still able to look that pretty. Even from the air, it looks as good as some of those pre-rendered Sukhoi model videos from precise modelling.com. The first time I saw these videos, I couldn't believe it was realtime. And yeah...the sound is insane too. Man!! I can't wait for the day when DCS makes a step up to an engine like that. Explosions that actually effect the world around... trees that can be burnt down by napalm and expose infantry....hide behind trees in black shark 2. :p LOL!

Remember the tanks video? Aaah..still can't get over how amazing it is.

But yeah... Its a gargantuan task to implement the realism of DCS with something like BF3. But hey...we can sure hope for something like that in a decade or so. It would be nice if ED can license the frostbite 2 engine for their next generation DCS modules. A remake of Flanker with it in full DCS A-10 fidelity would be mind-blowing.
