Hello, can anyone point me in the right direction (manual, answer) about following issue :

1. Start off from ramp

2. Payload : 95% with 100% fuel, no external fueltanks

Question : how far can i fly (nm) with the A-10 (approx). Is there an indication in the sim that tells me that the mission can't be flown without the use of external tanks or the help of a tanker in the air ?

Thanks !

Assuming

Weight 48,500 lbs

Fuel 11,000 lbs

Standard Day

Drag Index 8

Optimum cruise 21,000' (-30°C)

Optimum Mach 0.46

Ground speed 300 kt

Ref number 13.5

Specific range 0.06 nm/lb

Fuel use by top of climb 1850 lbs

Reserve 2000 lbs

Round trip range 429 nm

One-direction range 214 nm

OK, but :

"Specific range 0.06 nm/lb"= fuel consumption at 21000 ft with the payload indicated ! Where did you find THAT ?

I am interested to know as well. Where did you get these figures from?

However, if pilots would need to do daily what they are capable of doing, nobody would dare to fly anymore.”

@Hender,

hi, i just wonder about drag index 8. Is the any data to obtain such a index? A table of weight or something like this? I also interested about speed data, like Vr or Vref.

I use rule of thumb to estimate my Vr and all other speeds.

An easy way is to use Flaming Squirrel's mission planner. It's not perfect as he never finnished it, and has lost to source code so he can't do any more work on it. But as a tool for working out fuel/cruise altitudes etc it's excellent.

And if enough people use it, and ask him really, really, really nicely he might one day re-make the program and start adding all the missing features. Or maybe someone else with the required skills might do it.

The A-10A flight manual contains drag values for many of the stores that A-10C can carry. Rest of them you need to questimate by looking at drag values of stores that have similar size and shape.

FYI...we NEVER carry externals into combat...they are only used to ferry long distances.

This info is well known to me...no combat missions with ex. fueltanks...but then again : that was not the question ! Thanks for your response though !
