Cal.50BMG Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 (edited) First of all, greetings from Germany and both thumbs up for this gorgeous "game"! You definitely have a new pilot here! Now you are asking yourselves what exacty your fault is, aren't you? 1. Is is your fault that I am addicted to this game. 2. It is your fault that I don't have much time left for the real life, in case something like this really exists. 3. It is your fault that I had to spend my money not only for the HOTAS Warthog but also for the TrackIR thing;) 4. Due to point 3 it is clearly your fault that I don't have money left for the birthday of my girlfriend next week;) See what you have done to me? But hey, I'm really fine with it!!!! Thank you for this awesome game and "Hello" to all members of the ED-Family and to all other virtual pilots! MTFDarkEagle Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Hi! Welcome!! Yes it's quite good isn't it ;) Tip: Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack :D Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Cal.50BMG Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Oh yes, the MFD Cougar pack, that should be the next step:music_whistling: The only problem is point number 4 and the fact that this was not a joke so I think I have to do kind of a "diplomatic break" and stop spending money for the "Hog" ....for some days.
Moby Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 (edited) It's just the start sir. As your are sucked into the fold the next thing you will lose is you time. You'll be reading manuals, looking at maps and eventually....the pit build. Then the rebuild. Welcome to the community. I hope your girlfriend in forgiving. -Ice Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Better confess to the GF as early as possible, and if she still doesn't understand, get a new GF. Lots of girls out there, but there's only a handful of simulations like this one. :D Welcome! - Ice

Cal.50BMG Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Thank you for your "welcome-wishes"! I'm really enjoying this game and I'm enjoying the start-up phase too. When noticed this game I felt like a child;) I've been playing flight simulations since I was 12 years old and the A-10 is definetely what I was waiting for all the time! And I'm really glad that my gf is understanding and forgiving so I think I will keep both, the Hog and the gf;)

Crusader69 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 My wife is more forgiving after I told her that at least I'm spending most of my time at home flying rather than outside (where she have no idea what I'm doing). :) I bought my DCS A-10C, warthog, cougar mfd and saitek rudder pedals in one go. Cal.50BMG Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Thanx again for the welcome wishes! Before I will check out the cougar mfds (are they as great as they look like?) I need new rudder pedals. I think that Thrustmaster should offer an "all in one" package with the HOTAS, the mfds, rudder pedals and, of course, the game! That would be expensive but nice;) Get rid of the girlfriend? Naaaa, i will solve the "problem" somehow. Since we all know that birthday gifts not necessarily have to be "material";):music_whistling: I have another question by the way. Is there an engine start-up video of the A-10? I mean from the view of the pilot? I know there are two of the F-16, just in case someone does not know them yet, follow the links.
EtherealN Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Here's one by Matt, Producer at TFC/ED: (EDIT: Note that it wsa made before release, and there are a few differences - most specifically you now need to set EGI on (it now defaults to HARS) below the HSI, and you need to turn on the MFCD's with the twist-knobs on their bezel.) There is also the interactive training missions that should hopefully be useful. Cal.50BMG Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Ah no sorry, you got me wrong. I'm already able to start up, to navigate, to land (with and without ILS) and I already blew up a few tanks...damn it's so good;) I was thinking about a video from a real pilot in a real A-10, like those in the links I posted.
Mack Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Yeah, I'm with Cal.50. I'm hooked pretty good too. And I agree that it's best to just go ahead and get all the gear at one time. If one big box with a bunch of stuff shows up you can claim that you slipped or had a momentary break. Kill it before the merge, you know? If you start playing the sim and the wife or girlfriend is able to get you in the weeds with discussions about how you won't buy a really expensive HOTAS then you're in a tougher spot (hmm...who could I be talking about?)
ALDEGA Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Have the girlfriend "anchor" in the kitchen ;)
Cal.50BMG Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Mack is absolutely right. When the big "DCS-Box" arrives (of course the TrackIR thing is implemented, too) you can pretend being totaly astonished;) You can say something like...."oh....what is this? Was it really me who ordered this huge and expensive package? I can't remember anything but well, now that it is already there...let me have a closer look" I'm really scared what will happen if I ever plan to build a home cockpit:D No, to be honest my gf accepts most of my "crazy" hobbies.
