I was just wondering why people are allowed to have tens of lines of text in their signatures on this forum? All the other forums I actively post on have a restriction of between 4 and 6 lines maximum that is enforced by moderators, and with small text at that. I often find myself being distracted when trying to read what people say when their signature contains 15 intrusive lines of computer specs or a huge image compared to the five words in their post. What gives?

Lost.

Signature rules are clear:

2) SIGNATURE AND AVATAR RULES:

2.1. - Signatures may include images and/or text. If using images, use the Control Panel to upload the image to the forum for hosting and make sure it does not exceed the stated limitations of 500x100x20KB. There is no linking to 3'rd party servers for signature image hosting.

2.2. - Use the Control Panel to upload an avatar to the forum for hosting and make sure it does not exceed the stated limitations of 80x80x20KB. There is no linking to 3'rd party servers for avatar image hosting.

2.3. - Maximum signature height is 6 text lines. Take 20 px height of a picture as one text line. So a signature with 100 px height picture can have one text line below or above the picture.

2.4. - Empty lines are forbidden in signature.

Apart from the above, signatures are in content also subject to the general forum rules governing member conduct.

You are quite right in stating that sigs in contravention of the above rules are, at the very least, distracting.

Here is hoping that all members will have due regard to your post and attend to a wee bit of self-policing where relevant. Would certainly accord with the Gentelmenly demenour of our members and save us Mods a wee bit of time and effort :)

Ah, great, I just would not think there were any rules regarding sigs, seeing as there are so many that break them.

Nah... these are only virtual rules. Look around to see often are not obeyed :)

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

This is true, and when we have time we try to take care of it through sending a PM and/or editing the relevant ones. It is manual work though so it takes more time than issuing warnings or deleting/editing posts etcetera, and obviously has a lower priority in general.

Feel free to report cases of disruptive signatures though. :)

My sig was edited as I had it listed line by line. Now it is over one/two lines (depends on screen res), courtesy of a mod/admin. :)

We have clearance, Clarence. Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Lukas - I think this sig is in contravention of copyright! "blah blah...you will not copy, reproduce...blah...in whole or in part...blah blah" - it says so in the end titles of the movie it came from, that I can not name for legal reasons, due to other legal reasons. :music_whistling:

Best regards,

Tango.
