Supersheep Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hi! I am very persuaded by the Thrustmaster MFSs, but need some more input. In the other thread I found this: [...] They list two Thrustmaster MFD cougar packs. I have read in the forums that there are two versions of the MFD [...]. and [...] I checked when I had both the Vers. 1 and Vers. 2. "Anal" as this sounds the difference (apart from switch quality, which is night and day!) Small sticker on base shows Vers 1 or vers 2 Perspex screens were "film" protected on Vers 2 USB clear plastic end caps were different. Those are the two on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=thrustmaster+mfd&x=0&y=0 I cannot make out any show-stopper on either version (exept the price) How big are the differences and should I spend the extra ~$30? Thanks! Supersheep 1 The PVC Pipe Joystick Stand How to thread
MTFDarkEagle Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 There is only 1 version. 1 Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
VTJS17_Fire Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Looks like they are same, to me. I've payed 70 Euros for the pack (2x MFDs). One of my best investments in addition to TIR. kind regards, fire 1 Hardware: Intel i5 4670K | Zalman NPS9900MAX | GeIL 16GB @1333MHz | Asrock Z97 Pro4 | Sapphire Radeon R9 380X Nitro | Samsung SSDs 840 series 120GB & 250 GB | Samsung HD204UI 2TB | be quiet! galagamo Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I heard ver.1's were buggy. I think the extra $30 for the ver.2 is justified. I have a set of ver.2's, bought them used, going on 4 months, no complaints. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] OS:WIN7 HP X64|MOBO:ASRock Z68|CPU:I52500k@4Ghz|RAM:12Gb 3x4Gb GSkill Ripjaws 9-9-9-24 @1600Mhz|GPU:ASUS GTX580|HDD:2x128Gb Crucial sataIII SSD raid0|PSU:Antek 1000watt|Case:Antek 1200|Peripherals: TMWH|Saitek ProFlight rudder pedals|TrackIr4
cichlidfan Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 There is a v2. I have a set. They should not cost anymore because they are version 2s. I got mine from Provantage for less than $50 in May this year. One had a bad LED, out of the box, and when I contacted TM they even asked which version (1 or 2) was on the label (on the base). The bright side is that I only had to email a pic of the cord cut off of the defective unit and I had a new one in less than a week. 1 ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! BigBANGtheory Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Amazon in the UK sells them for £64 or $100! Does anyone know of a more sensibly priced source?
Loz Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 (edited) I cannot make out any show-stopper on either version (exept the price) How big are the differences and should I spend the extra ~$30? Supersheep The "show-stopper" is that the earlier version were of a much poorer component quality and usually had some sort of fault straight out of the box!! Supersheep Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 I will go for the Rev. 2, then. Any chance for me to identify the version before I buy when they ought to cost the same? I will ask the vendor, I guess. @Loz: Thanks for stressing. I have not seen the part I quoted as so grave. Saving me some trouble :) One of my best investments in addition to TIR. Man, this sim is making me go bankrupt xD Next I'll need two 8" screens and then a new graphics card to hook some more displays up and more time per day... :dunno: Supersheep The PVC Pipe Joystick Stand How to thread
VTJS17_Fire Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Ok, I looked on the base - I've version 2. But as I said - I paid it for 60 Euro. kind regards, Fire Hardware: Intel i5 4670K | Zalman NPS9900MAX | GeIL 16GB @1333MHz | Asrock Z97 Pro4 | Sapphire Radeon R9 380X Nitro | Samsung SSDs 840 series 120GB & 250 GB | Samsung HD204UI 2TB | be quiet! Yskonyn Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I have v2 as well. No mention of any other version at the store I bought them from. So I would think its a scam if a store wants to sell em for more than the suggested retail price for TM Cougar MFDs. There is no mention of v1s or v2s in all the shops I've checked. So you should het the v2s as that is the standard current version the MFDs come at.
