I need some advice from you expert simpit builders out there. This is a desk I am working on to be an everday desk as well as fit my flight sim wants (they are not really needs are they?). Here is the problem. I have a 19 inch (Elo brand frameless with a glass touch surface NICE!!!) touch screen inlaid into my desk, if I slide out the keyboard tray I am too far out to effectively use and operate the touchscreen. I have thought about putting the screen at a slant but that would raise the main screen to an unnatural hieght. Also note that the flight controls (they are going to be mounted) keep me from sliding the chair forward and if I lower the seat the main screen as well as the table top will be too high. So can you design guru's help me out? I need a solution (I know I did not give you guys a lot to work with).

Did you come out with a solution by yourself after all these 3 years?

No. I have had a rough 3 years. I got laid off, attended school, moved, started a new career, got a new puppy, and a ton of other stuff. I had to put my "dream" desk on the back burner because I had too much going on in my personal life.

Things are starting to slow down a bit for me now though. :) Until I start college.

I know the feeling man, I am going thru the same thing. Although I am almost finished with my associates degree and just finished A&P school. Hopefully I will find a job soon. I wish I would hear back from the folks I just sent a resume to. The job was "flight simulator technician". My wife would end up pretty upset though. God knows I would end up with a fullmotion sim in the house somewhere...LOL

On topic though, have you considered mounting the keyboard on a swing arm so you could have it in different positions based on what you are doing?

What I am about to do is to cut a hole in the desk and arrange the monitor so it sits below the main one.

You could do that with yours so its vertical rather than horizontal, if the hole is big enough you should still see the bit that is below the desk.

It could be interchangeable so flat when you are working and vertical when playing.

good that you are building again )

when i did my first desk based flight station I had the same concern.

IMHO is no way out of this geometric problem. you either raise the screen, or put the lower monitor low and on slant, which means it is no longer a desk really. here is a 19" (non touch) looks below somewhat comfortably positioned 24" above:

Ok Like promissed here is my implementation so far:

This was my desk originaly, it's missing a satelite "stand" for a printer that I attached on top of it after modifying the desk

Here is the desk how it stands prensently exept that I have not yet painted it. This is how I use it for general computing and gaming. Basicaly What I did to it was to shorten it. Added the satelite Block on top of it, cut the a square on the table top, and moved the sliding keyboard tray up to just bellow the table top. Also added another shelf on the bottom, ussing one shelf for holding my rudder peddals and the lower one (not visible) for cable management. I'm using a 32'' FullHD TV for main display, and a 21'' Touch monitor for secondary.

For Flight Siming it's still a work in progress and some of the things shown here are not yet built or built in a "prototype" form to help me figure the dimentions for the definate versions. So far the keyboard tray gets removed and the keyboard moved to the side. This was part of my original design as it was meant to be used with the long center stick. But I'm still figuring a better solution for the keyboard. The Seating arangement is not yet built and it will be redesign before I do. But it will include the atachment for the central stick. At present I built a prototipe stand for the central stick that helped me figure the exact position I need it. And I'm using it with a non wheeled office chair similar to the one on the previous picture. The throttle stand is also not yet built, currently I use a make do solution with another chair to stand the throttle on, by my left side.

The center of the 32'' TV is roughly at level height with my eyes so, it's just perfect for me.

The whole thing is very much exactly what I wanted, wich is an ergonomy similar to a fighter cockpit with a big main screen and a long center mounted stick. And it all reverts back (after taking the seating and atachments away) to a regular looking desk.

now i know that it's no really what OP looking for, but strangely enough i was going through my old documents and found a sketch i drew back in 2006 , at that time i just got my first LCD panel monitor, a whooping 19" one.

this desk never fully materialized as flight station - i really needed a normal desk., left console was never complete and the surface for bottom monitor was quickly changed into ordinary flat.
