Hello fellow pitbuilders!

I'm about begin construction of a prototype console panel for the A-10. Browsing the catalog at onlinemetals.com, I see that the different aluminum alloys have differing prices. Should I pick a particular alloy and live with the extra cost, or choose the cheapest option(5052 H32)?

Thanks for your input!

I don't know if you want to go the authentic route.

2024 T3 Aluminum is aircraft grade used on cessnas and pipers.

5052 will stand up to corrosion better than 2024. That is why I would recommend it more. Do you have the option for Aluminum clad? Or do you plan to paint over it.

The clad sheet was much more expensive, and I plan to paint it.

It is just a panel. It doesn't matter one bit other than cost.

What I thought, too. Unless you're machining moving parts then stick with inexpensive aluminum.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

perhaps i miss understood your use of the word "console" witch would refer to the structure of the side consoles. Not just a back plate for a control head

if that is all your making any Aluminum is better than plexi glass as some are using:thumbup:

CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

are you going to wield it or rivet it? will you machine it ?

I suggest you use the buying guide.

I'm going to cut holes in it with a laser cutter.

That's not what I'm doing. Not yet, anyway.:D

You did not misunderstand. For now, all I'm doing is making control head backplates.

Thanks for the comments, guys!
