...or just train yourself the good habit to use the collective brake every-time you change the collective-pitch ;)

And it really makes so much of a difference to control the Ka-50 wit AP-altitulde-hold ON always- while you have to press the collective brake all the time while moving the collective - much better altitude stabilisation!

-something I only did while in route-mode before.

My Ka-50 activate Altitude hold automatically when i activate hover mode.

Yes, just notice that...:D My bad!

Thanks Pete, just geting into that... Do you hold the collective brake, or just hit on and off when correcting? Any indicator that the collective brake is on? I don´t have IR... Are you using the "Altitude-Hold" at the same time with the collective brake?

Can you please elaborate more on how you use the collective brake. Once again, thanks Pete for the info!

In real life anytime you move the collective, you press and hold the brake and release it when the collective is in the new position. The brake is there to prevent any unwanted movement due to vibration or acceleration. So that would be the correct way to use it.

Collective brake in the sim doesn't have any function if the Alt Hold isn't engaged. When you use it when it's engaged, you should always do it the correct way, or you you will be fighting the autopilot. The collective brake assigns the altitude to hold and if you move the collective without pressing it, autopilot will still try to hold the old altitude. Pressing and holding the brake disengages the autopilot and when you release it, autopilot engages again and the new altitude is assigned to it.

Thanks so much for clearing that up for me Griffin! At first, that´s what I thought, but thought I should ask just in case. Great help indeed Griffin...Thanks  In some way, it´s a altitude trim...

Crap Griffin, we already have enough division with Flight Director on/off, press and hold trimmer, tap trimmer, alt hold on/of, and now this

Herewith the link to the track in case you have BS2 installed. I do not at present so it will be a wee bit difficult - I'll have to refly :)

See if you can get the track to play back correctly. If not, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Finally had time to look at that track. I think something's not quite right with it, because it ends with you landing in the grass outside the airfield.

Anyways, the acrobatic maneuvering, allthough great, is not ideal to understand the concept of immediate-release-trimming. It would be better if demonstrated in a simple circuit around an airfield with a hover squeezed in halfway.

But thanks for the track anyway.

When you fly, keep your eye on your VVI (Vertical Velocity Indicator) don´t go over +5 or -5. This is your main visual guide aide!

NO! Your main visual guide aide is on the outside of your window. Eyes on the horizon.

There are so many ways to fly this bird, you just have to do what is right for you. Personally, I don't use trim or stability augmentation unless entering auto-hover, and not ever ever FD.

My method; I know all the instabillities of this crazy biatch, so I just give her small micro-nudges in any direction that I want her to go. Big cyclic and collective inputs are big no-noes until you have cultivated full spine reaction.

You are there when the chopper does what you want it to do, and you know what it can do.

IHMO - if it works for you to fly without Trim at all - Fine!

But:

Big cyclic and collective inputs are big no-noes until you have cultivated full spine reaction.

"Big" cyclic/collective changes are no problem at all when using the trim/collective-brake as they should.
