Rick29 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Hello, I am about to purchase this game either from Steam\Direct2Drive or my retail store. Is there any advantage to buying retail, like an included keyboard layout or something similar? Is anything included in the box besides the disc? Thank you.
kylania Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Yes, letting retailers know you want products like this. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
Kunter7 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I'd like to hear an answer to this question as well.
Rider1 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) The box version contains a game disc only. The manual (700 pages) and a few other guides in pdf format are also included on the disc. If you like having the physical disc and the box in your collection, then go retail. Any version you get right now though, you will have to patch the the latest 1.1 version anyway. I think steam and D2D are still one version behind? There is another patch being worked on that should be available to download in the near future as well. Edited December 6, 2011 by Rider1 clarity
agrasyuk Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 i already have it on steam. my main drive to get the box was to have something standing on the shelf near the FSX , RoF, Lock on platinum and BS box. yeah, the advantage is very vague if at all, i know. Megagoth1702 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Not much advantage with retail... You can buy a CD key from http://www.cdkeyexpress.com/dcs-a10c-warthog-cd-key-p-727.html and save tons of money, just send it to yourself via email so you don't forget it when you need it later someday. Awesome service. :) No, it is not illegal. Companies do sell CD keys of course. It's much cheaper than a box, a disc and shipping. And companies like Valve just make it more expensive because they offer a certain service (updates, play where u want etc). So yeah. Either 20€ for Steam Sale or the link I posted. Bought BF3, DCS A-10 and Batman Arkham City there, awesome. Simulations are few and far between, and developers of them are even more rare. I assume that not much, if any, of your 20€ sent to cdkeysexpress in India made its way back to Eagle Dynamics.
cichlidfan Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) That is NOT legit. I knew that post was out there I just couldn't find the last thread about this. @ Megagoth, did you ever wonder why they ask you to use the key right away, or why they always have keys for the stuff that is sold by online services like Steam. Bet you can't get a BS2 key from them. Megagoth1702 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Really? I'd like more informations on this. Why is it like this? I felt like saving a lot of money and my explanation did good enuff for me. If there is more behind it - tell me. If there is more behind it - tell me. The site you liked to are selling CD keys illegally, the keys they sell have not been provided by ED/TFC, and no money from puchases made through them goes to ED/TFC or the developers for any game purchased on such sites. Put simply, buying from that website is no different to buying a dodgy DVD or game from a market stall.
Megagoth1702 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot! Sorry ED, I didnt know! :O I just thought they are saving themselves the shipping, CD and box costs! Daym! Jesus man, where do the people get the keys from? Eddie Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Daym! Jesus man, where do the people get the keys from? Generally sites like this get the the keys they sell by hacking accounts on Steam/D2D etc. Which is why there is the 5-60 mins wait from paying until you get your key, someone has to go and hack an account to get you one. Some other sites sell keys from stolen copies of retail games, and some just use key generators. While there are legitimate CD key resellers out there, there are probably even more illegitimate ones. The general rule is if the site is based in China, India, Africa etc, then walk away.
cichlidfan Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot! Sorry ED, I didnt know! :O I just thought they are saving themselves the shipping, CD and box costs! Saving shipping of what? They don't own anything, ED does and ED will already sell you a key (with no CD, box or shipping). Again, note, they want you to use the key ASAP (i.e. before the rightful owner uses it)!!! The CD keys we offered in the store are all valid, brand new, 100% un-used, though please make a prompt activation after the purchase. That quote from their site should be a GIANT red flag for anyone. unknown_ID Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Why not buy it directly from ED? That's the easiest way to support them http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=1322&scr=shop&lang=en
Mt5_Roie Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I bought directly from ED and I got my serial within seconds in an email. What if my pc crashes or I remove the game or I lose the serial? I could have bought the disc from best buy but it was raining like all hell. I got version 1.1.1.0 is that the latest? Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Eddie Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I bought directly from ED and I got my serial within seconds in an email. What if my pc crashes or I remove the game or I lose the serial? The serial is shown on the purchases page when you login to the DCS website with the account you used to purchase the sim. I got version 1.1.1.0 is that the latest? Yes.
Mt5_Roie Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Thanks for the quick response. I've been reading the flight manual for now and when I get back from work I will try to setup my logitech extreme 3d pro for the game. I will probably use a profile too. Glad a company exists to make a very realistic simulator like this. Always wanted to start the jet, take off, land and do various things other than run and gun. I remember f-22 raptor had similar training missions. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
