JCook Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 If I'm not interested in programming right now can I just plug the HOTAS in and start flying it in DCS A10C? Do I have to install any software for the basics?
Sarge55 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Excellent choice if I may say so.... Pretty much plug and play "but" there's always a but.. eh? If you have a TrackIR you should clear the view settings from your trim hat and just use it for trim. Also check your axis settings to make sure you do not have any settings doubled up and causing conflicts. This seems to happen if you have rudders more often. Enjoy. Ragtop Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Also download and run the firmware updater for both parts, after that, hit the skies! 476th vFG Alumni
Nu-NRG Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Also download and run the firmware updater for both parts, after that, hit the skies! This! Many times this. It might save you the trouble later on. Aviate - Navigate - Communicate
Sarge55 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 My bad. What Nu-NRG and Ragtop said before anything else. Although new ones may now come with the updated firmware, better to check and update if necessary. Although new ones may now come with the updated firmware, better to check and update if necessary. I would not assume anything, especially about new vs. old. I have seen serial numbers over 11000 but 'new' ones with serial numbers below 8000 are still showing up. Mine is 7358 and I have only had it for a few months. Futaba148 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I wasn't a believer at first in the Track IR, but now I can't fly without it. Not only is the Warthog plug and play (minus the comments above) but the Thrust master Cougar MFDs are also. You can just use them as stand alone frames for pushing buttons and it makes a world of difference. TM Warthog, Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals, Cougar MFDs, TrackIR 5, 3 23" monitors, 19" monitor (for MFDs), GTX 570, GTX 560 Ti, 64gig SSD, 8 gigs ram, i7 3.4GHz, 1K PSU, 2.1 speakers, all wrapped up in a "leftover plywood" home-built cockpit. JCook Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 Thanks guys - so far the TM WH HOTAS is working fine. I'll download the latest firmware as you suggested. Appreciate the help.
