Crudzilla Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Hi all, Bought DCS: A-10C in the recent Steam sale. It's the first time I've played a proper sim and it looks like I've really thrown myself in at the deep end. Having saved all of 15 dollars or so buying the game on sale I then went and bought a Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog. lol. So with the stick set up and some old race pedals configured as a rudder thanks to an awesome thread I found on these forums I have started digging into the tutorials. I have two questions: 1. The big hat on the stick was originally mapped to change view and I have now got a Track IR... What is the hat mapped to in the real plane? 2. I am on the tutorial for the first take off. I engage nose wheel steering as advised but I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually steer it... Is this a keyboard command? I've searched through the massive controls list and can find no mention of it. Sorry for asking what are really easy questions for you guys I'm sure. I promise I did try a pretty extensive forum and google search before posting here. Thanks!
chokko Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 1. trim, map it yourself 2. rudder pedals...did you map your pedals in the axis screens? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
KillaALF Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 1. Trim - see pg 86 of the manual 2. Steering while on the ground and with NWS enabled is done via your rudder
nemises Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 nice work on getting the warthog straight up tho + trackir ... definitely straight into the deep end!.. good move!
Crudzilla Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 Wow, that was fast! Thanks all, I had a feeling I was asking a silly question... So the nosewheel steering button just 'unlocks' the nose wheel as it were, allowing it to rotate? The steering thing had me thinking it actively steered the plane like a car :D Great, thanks for the help. 1 more silly unrelated question... Is there a copy of the A-10C splash screen (jet over orange blurred terrain) available without the menu? I'd love to make it my desktop wallpaper :D Also got the manual loaded onto my kindle now so I'll try and read through it before I ask anymore. Thanks again!
Eddie Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 The steering thing had me thinking it actively steered the plane like a car It does, when NWS is enabled the steering is controlled via the rudder pedals.
159th_Viper Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 1 more silly unrelated question... Is there a copy of the A-10C splash screen (jet over orange blurred terrain) available without the menu? I'd love to make it my desktop wallpaper :D You have it already in 2048x1024. Navigate to your DCS A-10C 1.1.1.1/FUI/Common folder and open. Within you will find the pics. Welcome to the Forums :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? PhiXX Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 So the nosewheel steering button just 'unlocks' the nose wheel as it were, allowing it to rotate? In addition to Eddie's comment, the nosewheel is "unlocked" when nosewheel steering is disabled. It will follow the aircrafts movement.
