Pilotasso Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) My country is about to aprove a law that attributes a tax to compensate artists. The tax will be applicable to all devices with more than 150GB of memory no matter the type. It will be extended to everything purchased abroad (amazon, E-bay etc), even transportation trucks are obliged to declare their cargo at the border. The tax is 2 cents for every extra GB beyond 150. Adding insult to injury, VAT has recently increased to 23% for everything. I payed 170€ for a 3TB hard drive 6 months ago. Now add, 6% more taxes plus 2 cents every GB. According to statistics Each Portuguese Salary is taxed to more than 60%, almost 30% directly from the base salary, then the other 30% comes from VAT while purchasing basic need goods. oh maaaaaaaaaaan. :cry_2: Edited January 6, 2012 by Pilotasso heh correction A TB still seems alot!!! .

Pilotasso Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 Its not going to end here, other countries are studying the same, i think spain Already did it, though with a lower VAT it might compensate to travel to the other side of the border. .
YorZor Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Get over it. Most countries that are in trouble because of that stunt the Greeks and other Southern European countries pulled on us.... The north is getting screwed into it so get your ****ing lazy butts moving asap and grow a pair. We're paying for the damned mess those countries put us in. The thing you can blame us is that we let you. 1
PeterP Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) YorZor,... To make ONE thing clear: It was not only the Greek.. (Portugal is the next candidate) - there are many factors that closed both eyes to make this happen. ( the whole EU and the sick finance system that we have... ) And blaming the Greek (People) is not suitable at all. -Greek Government (If you want it call it this way) is much more appropriate. The biggest diference between the 2 is that brazil has alot more Job opportunities, Salaries are not that different, and brazilian everyday life costs are growing up too. Northern Europe, germany and Switzerland offers better salaries because there is lack of qualified people there. The demand is great and I might take a decision to jump ship instead of sacrificing my hard work to pay for the debts caused by 30 years of mediocre leadership here and everywhere else. .

Well, I think it indeed a problem of the greek society, not only just the government. Faulty payments, Rip-offs (regarding pension to people who dies years ago, or remember that village with 80% being blind to gain extra funds, etc.) and the low morality to pay taxes have worsened things a lot... I dont believe that all the erfforts will be enough, since the greek People will refuse to follow the new laws that save money.. I would too probably. Your anger about the hdd is just One small Part of it. If greece declares itself insolvent, all debts would be resetted. Now whos to blame then? Other countries such as portugal, spain, italy may watch the ongoing Development with much interest. Myself, I wouldnt invest a penny into any stocks or assurances anymore. If you have a chance to get better perspectives - do it. We do same in Poland. We are constantly told, we are the "green island on the red Europe" and other bullshits but really Poland live in one big crisis for 20 years. Without Germany large amount of people would have had much worse situation. In area where I live (quite large Silesia) without German and Netherlands seasonal work (or stable full job there), nothing would have been here. sobek Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) saved a fortune LOL, we have one thread were people shun the greek for not paying their taxes, and brag about conning the state for taxes just a few posts later. Pilotasso Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 The Dumbest part is that I purchased the TM Warthog from SIMware and it ended up being 15€ cheaper than the units sold here (months later). Also, the artists here havent produced a single decent music or cinema title for 10 years, I dont even have a single MP3. Now I have to pay a tax for something I dont purchase or even want ever to download on the net fro free. :P I guess some unemployed people are better than others :D .

clafly Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Italy is not made better. Here we pay a tax every year to own tv or pc or radio. And a tax on blank CDs .. but not even a tax for each Gb.. for now. Understand my english?
EtherealN Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Your english is fine. :) And yeah, we have a "tax" of sorts for TV's as well. (Though it's called a "license" here. I think most western-european countries have that system actually.) Money goes to state broadcaster. The frustrating part is that you have to pay it even if you can't receive TV broadcasts, which is the case for me. So this x-mas I gave my plasma to my kid sister. Already paid half a euro per day in license just because I play X-box like once a month, and over several years that adds up. There have been talk about a tax on mp3 players as well, we already have it on DVD's and CD's. Not sure if they actually went ahead with that one though. They've also been trying to require TV-license to be paid if you have a broadband connection, since our state broadcaster does also broadcast some (not all) of it's programmes via the net - but with an atrociously bad Flash plugin that barely works. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Feuerfalke Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Welcome to the club, Pilotasso. Nothing new for most of us. As EtherealN stated, these sorts of payments is quite common, not only in Europe. We all have to pay for these kind of things, though some people just don't know. Some of these payments are taxes others are fees, as EtherealN already described in detail. But we also pay for each empty CD-, DVD- or BluRay-Medium, even for memory chips for Smartphones or MP3-Players. There are even higher fees for devices that are able to record media. And of course there is a special tax for electronic amusement devices, being added on top of those. And yes, PC-Hardware is in this category as well. Most of these payments are fixed values, though, so people don't realize them. The companies importing these goods pay these fees and taxes and add the value to the price. Luigi Gorgonzola Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 But we also pay for each empty CD-, DVD- or BluRay-Medium, even for memory chips for Smartphones or MP3-Players. You forgot to list printers, Xerox' etc. All applicable to additional tax since last Millenium, e.g. in DE. This is really cold coffee being boiled up once more.
RogueRunner Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Adding insult to injury, VAT has recently increased to 23% for everything. Pretty much most european countries and across the pond follow the formula: Country= greece - K years  No matter how much denial there is. In the case of portugal K is the smallest to match the size of the landmass. :D .
