nuNce Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Hi there, just bought BS2 and I'm disappointed by the overall framerate, since to me graphic quality is the same (maybe even worse considering I've modded my old BS1 install). One thing I've noticed is that when buildings are involved frame rates drop down dramatically. So I zoomed into the buildings and I've noticed that they draw shadows, even though I've put mine to low. In BS1 putting shadows to low would make only your A/C project them, instead on DCS BS2, shadows on low still make all objects and aircrafts (at least stationary ones) to draw shadows I don't want to see. Is there any cfg fix? Thanks!
nuNce Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Bump, still can't play the game cause of this. Any suggestions?
EtherealN Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I'm not the LUA genius, but if you open C:\Games\DCSBS2\Config\terrain\low.lua (Change as necessary for your install location, there is also medium and high, depending on which one you are using) and go to lines 95, you'll find something called flat_shadow. Might be the one. There is also a lot of other things you can change in there that go above and beyond what can be edited in the options screen, though the exact meaning of the variables can sometimes be a bit obscure. Note that you should always keep a backup as well, in case a change you make breaks something or causes unexpected effects. 213 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 first of all, the graphics are definitely better. there isn't any debate. whatever your problem with the graphics is has to be on your end. consider updating. blackshark 2 works best with 64 bit operating system, a quadcore and anything above 460 gtx. 1gb of video ram is a must for this game. barring some special circumstance, it's almost always outdated hardware that is the cause for people's performance problems.
msalama Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 called flat_shadow. Might be the one. Putting both values to 0 indeed does disable all shadows. Thank you Sir, that was a good find  The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
msalama Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 NOPE, SORRY, IT DOESN'T!!! I was just stupid and tested where there was no direct light and thus no shadows either :music_whistling: The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Well, BS1 with all the high quality mods is not so far away from BS2 to me. Still can't BS2 to run well with a similar graphical quality. Being able to disable shadows would allow many people to run the game properly, and I can't see any reason not to do so by ED. That said, not everyone has 700€ to buy a brand new pc. I'm running on a Phenom II x4 965, a HD5770 1gb and 8gigs of ram on Win7 x64. It's a fairly average pc.
riboyster Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I agree, and have been flailing with the same problem in A-10C. -SnakeShit [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Peace through Superior Firepower EVERYTHING YOU'LL EVER NEED FOR LOMAC: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/news.html
Terrorvogel Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 With my Matrox Triplehead and GTX 580@6320x1050 it really makes no fun anymore. Very poor framerates and not really playable for me. With BS1 there was/is no problem with that high resolution. Same for A-10C too. I do really hope there will be a solution soon... nuNce Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Respectfully the answer is to settle for a lower resolution. No cost for ED to include an option to fully disable shadows. I highly prefer playing with no shadows at full resolutions than the opposite.

lanmancz Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) Is it possible to have shadows set on low but still have cockpit shadows on ? I noticed that cockpit shadows don't show unless the shadow setting is on med/hi.
