Chief Instructor Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I've been experimenting using the Voice Activated Commends (VAC) software to manage my views. The results have been fantastic! Where as I'm not interested in using VA for controlling cockpit functions because it's not realistic, It is very useful to control views and other sim functions by voice, negating the need to take your hands off the HOTAS! I'm finding it particularly useful for bringing up snap views and zooming in on the HUD for strafing runs  Combined with TIR5 and the TM HOTAS and Cougar panels, it has taken the sim to another dimension for me. I hate fumbling around with the keyboard to change views or zoom levels or whatever and this software solves the problem beautifully. With some fiddling it is also easy to map voice functions to the radio comms too. In fact, you can very easily make anything happen via voice. The recognition software has for me been 99% accurate in its recognition, even when I speak very fast and casually. I have done a very small demo video so you can see what I'm on about. I have set up a command to eject at the end which is useful. Also, a open/close canopy command, just for demo purposes. Anyway, you'll get the idea. Ignore the reckless flying... it's all about the voice! Sorry, I have no idea how to embed a video player here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILZ_4j3f1ps&feature=youtu.be The software is available here http://www.dwvac.com/index.html and has a 30 day trial, so you can try without cost. If you get hooked, I think it only costs $18 for registration. Bargain. 1 CPU: Intel i9 13900KS @5.8GHz | MB: ROG Strix Z790 Gaming-E | GPU: Asus ROG Strix RTX3090 OC | RAM: 32Gb Corsair Dominator DDR5 @6200MHz | Cooling: Custom CPU/GPU cooling loop | PSU: Supernova 850G2 @ 850W | OS: Windows 10 Home Premium 64Bit Storage: 3x Samsung EVO 970 Plus M.2 1Tb + 3x Samsung 850 EVO SSD 250Gb | Input: TM HOTAS WH Saitek Combat Pedals | Output: Samsung 50" OLED TV | VR: HP Reverb G2 | Audio: Realtek + Z906 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System
weasel75 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Thanks for the video - it is amazing how fast the software recognizes and triggers the keys. While I need to get used to the snapview via-voice idea, I always hated to have to enter the radio-commands via keyboard .. maybe another thing one can do with the VAC? Would feel also adequate ;) Here is some older piece of software I used years ago: http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/ - it is free, but needs some XML-writing. basic for translators ...
Heli Shed Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 here mate: ILZ_4j3f1ps Good job! Come pay us a visit on YouTube - search for HELI SHED
Chief Instructor Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Thanks Tyger! I've learned a lot from your excellent videos - thanks! Weasel, it's really easy to use the VAC for controlling the radio commands. I just haven't got around to setting them all up yet, though I have done a few! The VAC system uses the Microsoft Speech 5.1 technology which is embedded in Win 7 as the core recognition code. The VAC kind of sits on top and handles the mappings but it runs seamlessly in the background without the need for MS Speech to even be running. I am amazed at how well it recognises whole sentences, let alone individual words. It's quite amazing! :clap_2: 1 CPU: Intel i9 13900KS @5.8GHz | MB: ROG Strix Z790 Gaming-E | GPU: Asus ROG Strix RTX3090 OC | RAM: 32Gb Corsair Dominator DDR5 @6200MHz | Cooling: Custom CPU/GPU cooling loop | PSU: Supernova 850G2 @ 850W | OS: Windows 10 Home Premium 64Bit Storage: 3x Samsung EVO 970 Plus M.2 1Tb + 3x Samsung 850 EVO SSD 250Gb | Input: TM HOTAS WH Saitek Combat Pedals | Output: Samsung 50" OLED TV | VR: HP Reverb G2 | Audio: Realtek + Z906 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System
superfluid Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 This is really cool! Even with Freetrack, I've always felt like the snap-view toggles were a somewhat cumbersome, specially when you've got both hands full and you need to make a quick change to your CDU or zooming while rolling in on a target. Thank you, good sir, I can't wait to get home and try it :) i5 2500K | MSI GeForce GTX 580 Twin Frozr II | Corsair H100 Cooler | 16GB RAM | Patriot 120GB SSD | Freetrack 3pt Clip | Saitek X52 Pro

spikenet Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Fish has an excellent VAC profile that does all the Radio commands on here somewhere. However, it does get confused between "tower one" and "wingman".. Could you post your VAC profile for the snapviews please. cheers
