But what about Fun? is that not a word too? :)

You do have a point - but there is no need for an artificial restriction, to be "plausbile nor credible", in mission making however.

Nate

Fun is a word too. A good word. I like that word. And don't get me wrong. I love the thought of flying the p51 with the same fidelity as the a10.

It's just that, for me, it would ruin the immersion if the p51 was in the same scenario with modern aircraft.

That being said, I will probably buy it. Just because it's such a wonderful aircraft.

*edit*

I guess, what I'm saying is that I hope there will be a universe for the p51. Contemporary enemies and such. I really do hope that. You can make missions for fun yes, but that glorious bastard of a plane deserves enemies of its own kind.

I guess immersion and it's relevance is subjective, I will be pretty immersed handling the pony and keeping everything running smoothly I'll most likely foreget where I'm flying and in what era.

I've always wanted to see how modern planes would do vs wwIi birds....come the release I'll personally be able to fulfill part of that curiosity.

I don't paint by numbers so then sandbox presented in this case has no walls or boundaries, only challenging opportunities for fun.

Make believe and a form of adult imagination will always be apart of flight sims.

I hope we can have a mission with like all these in multiplayer and taking off in pairs :joystick:

Pairs, boring. Everyone at once would be far more fun. All in different directions as well. :D

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

I still can't see what the fuzz is about.

Missions for the P-51D?

Have a look at what the aircraft can do, and what its limitations are, and assign it missions accordingly. Just like you would for any other air asset available in theatre. It's reasonably fast, very manoeuvrable, packs a machine gun punch, carries rockets and dumb bombs, can fly high, got long legs and very significant endurance. It lacks in countermeasures and climb rate, has excellent visibility for the pilot but does not have a sensor suite apart from the MkI eyeball (and a pair of binos - pretty, pretty please ED?).

FAC, CAS, recce, surveillance, liaison, strike, COIN, CAP, escort...

Will having P-51s in your perceived setting mean angst-ridden sleepless nights, as it will be the only thing which is not 100% plausible in your simulated fictional war? :joystick:

If no, you're home free.

If yes: Can you be happy with pretending that the P-51s are modern day lightweight fighters with similar performance and capabilites, e g COIN aircraft (think AT-802), and look past the fact that the visuals won't match?

If yes, you're home free.

If no: Exclude the P-51s from your missions and you are home free. Rest assured other mission designers will cater to those who want to fly P-51s, so no reason to feel bad about it.

All possible outcomes are good - what's the issue, really?

Missions? Phah. Easy as fornication. As I've said before make it so that humans can fly as insurgents, and then just let the Mujahideen buy some moth-balled Mustangs from a cash-strapped 3rd world country ;) Now would the fight be even? Hell no... but are they ever?

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Maybe some mercenary campaign in the Mustang including recon and ground strafing, photo taking etc? In a modern war that's the best one could come up with for the P-51. While I still think it's pointless for a Mustang to be part of the "Crimean Air War", I would very much like to have a campaign.

Let's say the player is some shady gun for hire with a Mustang, who get's a contract from some local mod to take care of some shady business for them while the war is on, or maybe some humanitarian third party to document possible war crimes. It would probably be hard to pull off and unrealistic, but it's still better than sight seeing.

And optimize the damn engine for Pete's sake! :)
