awdrgyjo Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Can somone please explain how the TGP locks, and then tracks a moving target. I was under the impression that the TGP transfers its GPS cordinates to the bomb using its reference as LAT/LONG regardless if there is an object occupying that space, I would be gratefull to a reply, thanks in advance.

It does. The bomb targets the coordinates the IFFCC feeds it at weapons-release, hence the necessity to hold down the pickle button whilst data is transferred - It does not know you are tracking a moving target The bomb will however not follow the moving target - will fall on coordinates received at release. The SPI does however follow the tracked target as the position of the SPI is continually being updated by the IFFCC as the tracked target moves. Frostiken Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 It does. The bomb targets the coordinates the IFFCC feeds it at weapons-release. I wonder what else it's sending - tuned INS comparison data, to ensure the bomb didn't 'drift'? Because three lousy numbers just for lat/long/elev wouldn't take more than a fraction of a second to send :p [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
