As per title, I'm planning to upgrade my carp AOC 32" 720p HDTV, I'm looking for something that help me to better see my targets while doing my strafe runs on the A-10C...

I was thinking to buy a 32" 1080p HDTV but they are out of my budget, and I really don't want to keep my old HDTV because playing at 1080i is just as horrible as playing at 720p, so my options are reduced to a 22" or 23" lcd... these ones are available at a well known local store

23" LG E2360V

21.5" Samsung S22A300B

23" LG W2353V

22" AOC 2236VW

There might be other monitors available but just don't know what to look for.

Regards

most important factors are resolution (more pixels gives sharper image but you need better video card to drive more pixels) and then response time (the lower the better, 5ms or less is good enough... 2ms is about as low as they get).. then you can look for what connections they have and to me general looks makes the final decision :) If your monitor is on a lot power usage is also somewhat a factor ;)

Thanks for anwsering...

I got a GTX 580 3GB driving 4 monitors (3 x 17" monitors@1280x1024 plus my 32" HDTV@1920x1080i)... so far I got ~10-20FPS at high settings in A-10C, but I don't mind trading eye candy for smoothness... in fact I would prefer being able to seing objects at long distances...

i found a good deal on a LG W2353V... it's a 2ms 1920x1080 2ms with DVI. According to maximun pc this has some flaws but it performs well in gaming...

Hope I can get a discount for buying 3 of these

[OT]: I just keep wondering why do people still buy old&crappy TN+Film, when there are plenty of IPS/PVA/PLS LCDs which they could get for about the same price? Really do not understand. Go to some good HW-shop and watch the difference with your own eyes! Trust me: once you try IPS/PVA, you will never go back to TN...[/OT]

You don't understanding probably because where you live new technology arrives quickly or at least in a fair amount of time compared with where I lived... and probably prices are fair enough too! Want an example: My GTX 580 3GB cost me about 1200USD after taxes, etc.... that's twice the price at wich is sold in amazon cry.gif. You would say... buy from amazon then! Well that's another history... mortals like me only have access to 400USD "PER YEAR"... yes I can only spend online (web stores, etc) $400 for the whole yearsad.gif

Anyway, from a technological point of view I really agree with you: why buy old tech when there's better tech on the market? Well I must admit that I just looked at local web stores, probably if I try harder I can find someone selling LCDs based on IPS/PVA panels but that would probably cost me an arm or leg... because that seller will know that not every store is selling that kind of tech... exclusiveness and cutting edge tech has a cost tongue.gif

BTW I end up buying two LG E2360V instead of the planned LG W2353V, and yes both are discontinued in LG's home page, but our local version of "EBAY" is flooded with both monitors doh.gif

Thanks for your reply and please excuse if I'm being rude... that's not the intention biggrin.gif

I'm not, my 580 drives just two... I'm using a second cheap PCI Express graphic card to drive the other two monitors and SoftTH (Thanks Kegetys) to handle multihead in games... AFAIK my EVGA 580 can handle a third monitor through its HDMI port but I'm not comfortable with the lack of retention hardware to keep the connector in place... just a personal preference.

Crap... I wish TH2GO were not so expensive... I'm a poor man :megalol:

Actually, it cannot. The HDMI replicates one of the DVI ports. The new 680 is the first to support more than two.

You catch me.. I didn't do my homework... EVGA needs to clarify a bit. Taken from EVGA GTX 580 3072MB product page:

"Expand your games across three displays in full stereoscopic 3D for the ultimate “inside the game” experience with the power of NVIDIA 3D Vision and SLI technologies. NVIDIA® Surround™ also supports triple screen gaming with non-stereo displays."

I suppoused that, because of the last sentence, I implied that it could be done but obviously I was wrong

Thanks for pointing that out...

Your cheap card slows down your 580! Just for fun disconnect the cheap card and run 3 main screens on the 580 only ...should be much better fps.

get a gtx680(4GB!) to drive 4 monitors. Dont go for the 690! it has only 2GB per gpu and thats just enough video memory for 2xHD.

I am looking for this one too for my 5 screen setup ( 5th or 4th and 5th will be driven by my 580 then)

No it shouldn't, since running three screens on a single 580 is impossible. ;)

:D sorry I have to post this ! each time someone uses the phrase "impossible" it just drives me mad!;)

... and I want to be the first that writes the following , as some others may only read your sentence and aswer you without reading previous posts.

Ehmm... *clearing my throat in a wisecracking way*

It is possible: A dual-head splitter + softth....

Voilà! One Main-screen spread at three monitors , driven by one 580 ! :P

and now the punchline : just use a TH2GO

Ok - but doing it like fzfq3m is the budget solution and you will have no significant big performance lose in a simulation as DCS (it is more CPU dependent ) - as the PCI bus is fast enough to transport the data without bottlenecking, just as the Third monitor would be attached directly at the 580 when using SoftTH.

So the weaker GPU never gets in contact with the calculation and can't slow it down - it just hands it over to the monitor output.

This combination with a weaker GPU at the second pci bus should still be able to output around minimum of constant 40 FPS in 3840x1024 if the simulation is able to deliver the data fast enough and moderate settings are in use.

@Wags and @cichlidfan

I would prefer 3 of those :megalol:...

I went to 3 x 27"@1080p Led monitors because I found them at a really good price, and I thought that, being dcs a more cpu dependant game, my gtx580 3GB could handle them, and to some extent it can though not as I wish. While running StrongHarm's FPS Killer mission in DCS A-10C my GTX580 registers a max load of 98@82°C in GPU-Z... but the mission runs at 1 FPS:cry: that its with High Settings + Heat Blur, 4x MSSA, TSSA enabled, etc.

@PeteP Yep... I'm planning for TH2GO but as I said: I'm poor music_whistling.gif

So would I but not at the price I originally paid for the one. Not to mention the video card upgrade.;)

That mission is called an 'FPS Killer' for a very good reason.

Yeah... that's why I bought my GTX580 3GB, was going to purchase a GTX680 but wifie didn't want to sell the house... what a bummer
