No Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) system simulated. -Ships don´t use recon lights in nocturne operations (military or civilian) out wartime. I'll check if we have someone specializing on the ships, and hear if they have time to have a look at all the data. PS, normally we split up all these tasks in a google spreadsheet - so we can tag it green / yellow / red - and move on with the testing after we've reported it. And in the current naval concept, although I have always been very complex it would be nice if ED reached the same level of functionality in such a vessel can be reached in an airplane, if only for the AI, if only in procedures realism. I put Green, Yellow or Red in order of importance of missing feature or bug. I start with the Project 1241RZ [Tarantul III] DCS Molniya. First a video of youtube of Project 12421 Molniya upgrade, take by reference here: Some interesting questions show in the video and common on molniyas. - 1:40: Aft engine turbine doors open..... in the model the arguments has no modeled, but I not sure how operate them. it can connected with the turbine engines, the blue paint pipeline in the 6:05. I assume that doors has exhaust or similar to high speed operation. Green - 4:56: PK-16 and PK-10 chaff, flare and decoy launchers, has the flare/chute dispersed of the military ships. The use of that systems has decoy the incoming antiship and guided amunitions targeting the ships. 2xPk-16 aft ship, 2xPk-10 middle and other two fore of the ship. In the video you can see the Pk-16 chaff salvo launch. I not sure if fore Pk-10 can be trainable on azimut to adjust launch distance. Alfa Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Much of what you mention are not really "bugs", but merely a case simplified representation(model animations) - such as the varies weapons' firecontrol radars not physically turning towards target(BTW the FC radar for the AK-130 is not the "MR-145" - the MR-145 is for the AK-100, while the FC radar for the AK-130 is called "MR-184"). This does not necessarily mean that the associated radar routine(code) isn't working though - in order to determine whether FC radars are providing guidance to their respective armament in accordance with their properties, you need to test varies engagement scenarios for each system.....so alot of work. Anyway, there certainly are many problems with the naval stuff in the game, but sadly this has not been in focus for a very long time(practically since Flanker 2.5) and I seriously doubt that your efforts will result in any improvements - e.g. many of the actual bugs you mention(such as the carrier's aircraft control) weren't there in Lock-on and only occured during the switch to the DCS world with "Black Shark".......and apparently haven't been fixed yet. I assume with DCS series has no implemented that systems. I have describe the methodology to use them. A anti ship missile can be launch on 2 modes if applicable: LOBL and LOAL LOBL: Lock Before Launch: The launch ship use your inboard sensors to track and designate a target, passing the target data to the missiles, and launch them with your inboard sensors active locked on the target. That is the "standard" procedure on DCS. LOAL: Using a external source [helo or ASW aircraft, data-link, or only a position on the sea] the ship fire your missile on a marked course to that pre-programmed position loaded on your inertial (if available). The missile flight to them and activate your inboard radar or sensors to detect targets, attacking random target (assume the more big reflective target) with a terminal manoeuvres (if applicable) 3M80E Moskit [sS-N-22 Mod1] sensor modes: I/TARH: Inertial + Terminal Active Radar Homing: The missile flight to the designate point and make a attack profile on LOAL mode how I describe before, the missile descend to attack altitude (see above) and fly direct to the target. PRH: Preprogrammed Radar Homing: Has used how a inertial system, activate on a pre-defined point and the passive sensor has active to detect radar sensors on the area, the missile lock on the preprogrammed radar signature and descend to attack altitude (see above) to fly direct to the target. The 3M80E has dual seeker capability, Russian claim them and your primary guiadance mode has PRH, change to I/TARH if no detect radar signartures in the activation point. The 3M80E active seeker has a 3rd generation radar whit a radar azimut of +-45º aperture and detect Large/Medium/Small target at 15 Nm [Nautical Milles]. Small Targets at 6 Nm and Stealth targets at 2.5 Nm. That info has only speculative. Others 3M80E features: - Low altitude turn to launch: the missile can turn at low altitude after launch to the initial point or target position, no need make a climb with others old missiles equipped with booster launch rockets. - Terminal Manoeuvres: The missile make a terminal manoeuvres to difficult enemy defence ship seekers, some founds say the Moskit make a helicoidal descend to attack the target, other missiles make S-Turns or very low altitude attacks. -Nuclear Warhead: Some "especial" version can be equiped with 200 Kiloton nuclear warhead. Some issues: - On the enciclopedia, Tarantul apears wiht 2x1 Igla SAM launcher, but 3D model don´t simulate them, the AFT part or Molniya ship has empty. Some resources or book apear with 4x1, 2x1 or 1x1 Igla Sam Launcher. - please, change naval units name to correct name on .LUA archives, if other molniya or other ship version can make in the future, the actual name can be make a inconsistence and a problem to match them. The naval component can be make a great impulse to the electronic battlefield of ED. With the incoming future Combined Operation ground forces module the boots and tracks can be coming to DCS series. The naval component has the only broken leg of the ED trinity [Air / Land / Sea]. I expected see a far far away naval module in the future [3-5 years] and help to make them realistic. I'm looking into this - the Kuz was fixed but the Vinson has other problems. Nice report but... do you want a flight simulator or a naval simulator? :D No harm to have this info at all. Invader ZIM Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Silver Dragon pretty much covered everything it seems regarding naval warfare. I'm a bit of a naval enthusiast too and was playing around with some naval battles in the quck mission and discovered the following: I was playing around with the CG Normandy in a quick mission and put it just off the coastline in DCS World and did the same in a quick mission in A-10C 1.1.1.1 and noticed a big difference in how the ship responded. In A-10C 1.1.1.1 the Aegis was a terror to behold! Simultaneously firing Tomahawks at land targets, and some enemy ships I had placed out at sea. Also firing multiple Harpoon missiles at the ships as well as Standard missiles at air threats. Both 5" guns engaging threats within range inland. Phalanx systems firing on incoming Sunburn missiles fired from the small attack boats. Quite a show!! Well, right up until the point where one of the ships gets hit or sunk then the game crashes. In DCS World, the ship seems to engage Air threats with the Standard missiles, but it never fired any Tomahawks, at anything during the battles. It just seemed to be a lot more lethargic in DCS World. In in some instances, when the sunburn missiles are fired at it, the Phalanx system never tried to engage them. Just wanted to point this out, as having a capable Aegis ship or any ship in this sim modelled more accurately can really change the tactics involved when your flying versus what the ship is doing in DCS World right now, which makes it an easier target.
