dburne Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Hey gang, Received my new TM Warthog setup yeterday, got it all hooked up and everything running well. I really really like this new setup, especially that throttle. Anyway, question for you Warthog owners. Does your joystick, have a small amount of play in a twisting motion when at center? I hope I am being clear on this - when I rest my hand on the joystick in it's center position, it can twist a little in each direction, the stick and the locking wheel both twist together - I don't know, maybe about 1/8" to 3/16" overall ... I am not moving the stick along either axis, it is just a small free twist. I don't suppose it really affects anything, the stick is operating very well, I was just a little surprised to see this small amount of free movement in the stick. Is that by design, does everyone's stick do this? Just want to make sure there is not maybe something loose on the insides I should be concerned with that might progressively get worse. celticcoho Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 hello DB, If I try to twist mine, it will move a little, But when flying, I do not notice it at all, Good Luck with your new toy. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Celticcoho (OriginFreedom) WIN 7 64 bit, I7975 at 3.6ghz,X58 Classified 3 Mobo, 6gb Corsair 2000 ram, 2 ea ATI 5870 Eyefinity 6 2gb's , 27" Ultra Sharp,(main view), 3 23"touch screens , Tm Warthog, Saitek Combat Pedals Track IR 5,:D JIM.:book:
dburne Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 Yeah I do not notice it whilst flying either. I registered at Warthog World after posting the above, and found a post there that talked about it - apparently this is common with all Warthogs - I am not going to worry about it any longer. Spy Guy Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Mine does not twist whatsoever, however there is a minor play in the center point. As others have said though, not noticeable in flight. I also worry it's one of those things that will get worse over time, though... Problems setting up switches on the HOTAS Warthog or similar? Tutorial Here
dburne Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 (edited) Stange that is interesting, mine has almost 0 play around center, just this small twisting that it does. I am hoping it does not get worse over time as well! FreeFall Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Anyway, question for you Warthog owners. Does your joystick, have a small amount of play in a twisting motion when at center? I hope I am being clear on this - when I rest my hand on the joystick in it's center position, it can twist a little in each direction, the stick and the locking wheel both twist together Actually, a few months ago I thought my joystick had developed that kind of twist (I think) you describe. But then I noticed that after using it for some months the knurled locking wheel had gotten a bit loose. I tightened the wheel and after that the stick felt OK again. I can twist it a bit, but considerable force is needed. So, I suppose it's good to check the locking wheel once in a while. Try to loosen the locking wheel a bit. And there will be a tiny loose twist available, I think.
dburne Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Yes I had already tried that, coming from the Cougar that has happened to me before, the locking wheel is nice and tight though. Beech Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Same here, NOT noticeable, but... perhaps 1 mm. (1/10 cm. and 1' is 2.54 cm., do the math). So I wouldnt worry about it AT ALL. Enjoy the stick, its sooooooooo great.
MTFDarkEagle Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Yes mine twists very very slightly as well. Don't worry about it, it's part of it's inherent design. I suppose you can open it up very carefully to have a look. Do put on some latex gloves for the greece :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Hamblue Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 With a stick that sits on a ball and moves in all directions, I'm surprised it doesn't have more twist. As noted it's normal.
