dburne Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Hey gang, I am back with another newbie question here. My Warthog is all set up and ready to go, and I am about to start getting into learning this sim. I have Track IR 5, have changed the mapping on my POV hat to trim. I have also downloaded - I believe it was Viper's DCS profile for Track IR5. Now, I noticed the hotkeys are the default - there are two that I use regularly , Pause, and Re-Center - which are F11, and F12 respectively. Previously with my Cougar, I would have built a joystick file and assigned the track IR functions to a button on my stick. With the Warthog pretty much already being assigned properly in the sim, of course I won't be creating a joystick profle in Target for it, I have looked in the options to see how I could do this, but right now it is unclear to me. Any tips, can I accomplish this? Also in the options I noticed the F12 and F11 keys are also used for something else, viewing static objects , should I be concerned about a conflict there> Thanks for any help, Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|
dburne Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 Thanks for the tip, I can certainly do that! I wonder though, if there is indeed a way I can map those to a button on my Warthog stick. Harzach Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I assume the warthog has some programming software , then it should be simple to add your key combo and bind it to a button That route requires mapping the entire HOTAS, however.
cichlidfan Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 That route requires mapping the entire HOTAS, however. Which is worth doing, 1) to learn target and 2) to open up the controller to be more usefull.;) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! dburne Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 (edited) Well, I have used TARGET already for another flight sim, I think I am catching on to it quickly. However, being as how my new awesome TM Warthog is automatically set up appropriately in A-10C, I was thinking I would not need to mess with creating a profile in Taget and having it running when I play the sim. I was thinking most TM Warthog users here preferred not to run it through Target for this sim, much preferring to use the assignments already in the sim for it. At least that seemed to be the advice I was getting... So, I guess then there is really not a way to assign a couple TIR functions to a hat without needing to go through Target then... I will have to think on this one. Thanks for the info, Edited May 19, 2012 by dburne Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|
FreeFall Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I've mapped my TrackIR 5 Pause and Re-Center to my mouse (which has plenty of extra buttons and is located next to my joystick). Works OK for me.
dburne Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 Duh, now why didn't I think of that - many many thanks FreeFall, I have a Logitech G400 mouse, and that will be easily enough done! Some times it is the simple things... makes me wonder how I will manage to learn such a complex sim LOL. FreeFall Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I have a Logitech G400 mouse, and that will be easily enough done! That's almost like my MX518. BTW, I mapped the Fwd/Back thumb buttons.
daribouca Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 The TrackIR software also lets you map its functions directly to a DirectX button. I use the comms switch depression to center the TrackIR and the slew thingy depression to toggle precision mode. Those buttons are not mapped to anything in the sim (assuming you're using the defaults mapping). It saves you the hassle of using a TARGET profile...
dburne Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 That's almost like my MX518. BTW, I mapped the Fwd/Back thumb buttons. Yep that is what I just did as well, first I changed the two hotkeys I wanted to ctrl-alt-F11 and same for F12, then mapped them to the forward and back button on my G400 - tested and working beautiful. One more question if I may - in the Track IR software, I do have "exclusive" checked. To the right of the hotkey assignments, are 3 boxes labeled " enable, toggle, and trap" - for each hotkey assignment. Should those three boxes be checked for each hotkey? Not sure I understand fully what these do? Those buttons are not mapped to anything in the sim (assuming you're using the defaults mapping). I think the comms/mic up is also unmapped by default. Not sure I understand fully what these do? I think I was quite confused myself when I tweaked with these settings and tried to read the manual. And it was sooo long ago cannot remember any more the details. But at least I have all those three boxes checked for Pause and Center. However, with my TrackIR settings the Exclusive is not checked. Don't even know/remember the meaning of this... :D
dburne Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 Thanks, I have those three boxes checked as well, guess I will leave them. Yeah that manual for TIR can be confusing. I do know what "exclusive" means I think - it means it loads that profile irregardless of what may be chosen in the titles tab for that specific game/sim, so I currently have a profile named "DCS" that I downloaded here, with the exclusive box checked, any of my other flight sims I have will use the DCS profile. Alternatively one can select a profile for each individual title, to run with that title when it is launched... At least, I think that is what it refers to. CubPilot Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) Because I use the Comm UP button as a PTA button for VAC (& I want to reserve the Comms IN button for Teamspeak or similar programs) I chose to use the Warthog joystick Pinky Lever for pausing & centering Track IR. Short press CENTERS, long press toggles PAUSE, all on one button like most of the other HOTAS button/switches. It is really quite handy there, my hand is almost always on the joystick, more so than the throttle. I used AutoHotKey to do this. Then made a BAT file to load the two AutoHotKey scripts (For TrackIR & VAC). VAC is loaded with the correct profile, and turned on automatically, along with the TrackIR scripts. Then I click on the A-10C exe & go fly. More info here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87543 , the files are there for downloading. :pilotfly: Edited May 21, 2012 by CubPilot [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win7 Pro 64 | Asus Rampage III Extreme |Swiftech H2O cooled: CPU, Video, N.
