Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 There is a terrible FPS drop when you switch views many (2-4) times between AI units - maybe a memory leak? - will it be fixed in the patch?
Weta43 Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 I vote no-one asks for new stuff for this patch or we'll be downloading it just after we install 1.2 ... Cheers.
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 We will be dl 1.2 when the patch is out :D This is not a small problem - it really brings the FPS down to 1 FPS for 5-10 seconds.
BuzzU Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 I never thought of this. Is changing views the problem? I always go to outside views, because I like seeing the plane flying, but if it's causing the memory leak i'll stay planted in the cockpit. Buzz
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 The more you do it - the worst it gets. I am not talking about simple missions - but anything that has many objects. I just crashed because of it -ALT+TAB solves the problem sometimes.
Weta43 Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 It is a pain, but if you know it happens & it's not something you need to do to play the game then surely there's a simple workaround - stay inside the plane if you know there are lots of objects around... Maybe - Not worth delaying this patch for, but needs fixing for 1.2 ? Cheers.
SuperKungFu Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 this is true, sometime when i switch views a little too much, the fps drops so much! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Mustang Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 there seems to be a pattern in certain scenarios, especially with A-10 or Su-25 missions, you switch F2 view to an F-15 or any other heat-blur producing aircraft and the FPS nosedives, only an alt-tab cures it, but it doesn't happen as often as it used to since my X800XT came along, must be the additional onboard RAM coping with the possible memory leak
DayGlow Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 if you jump to an AI aircraft that is some distance from you the sim has to fetch all the terrain data for that plane and will slow down fps as it loads. How high is your prefetch set and how much system ram do you have? "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 This happens using F2 - for SA, that is why it is so annoying. I have 2GB of RAM and an X800Pro.
Air-Force-1 Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Please read my posts in ubi forum (link below) This happens using F2 - for SA, that is why it is so annoying. I have 2GB of RAM and an X800Pro. There is obviously a major problem with memory leaks Check my posts below. :icon_frow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/5761022763
DayGlow Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 There is obviously a major problem with memory leaks Check my posts below. :icon_frow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/5761022763 not to be an ass, but why aren't I experiencing these 'memory leaks'? I'm afraid your post proves nothing, it's just your opinion. When I switch views I get zero lag or fps drop, unless I load an AI plane that needs to cache the terrain around it, once it's loaded it jumps right back up. I hope if there are issues that they are identified and fixed, but much of it goes beyond the game itself. I know when I had a 9800pro I turned off heat blur because it would bring the fps to a crawl that only alt-tabing would fix. Now that I have Nvidia I have no such problems. That issue is rooted in drivers for the video card which ED has zero control over. Thomas, how long have you had this problem? Is it the new Cat drivers maybe causing the issues? Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 For a while now - it is not something that is easy to pin down, mostly with the Russian fighters. But it can be CAT drivers that are making it worse - I moved from 5.7 to 5.9 then to a tweaked driver. I really don't know what is causing it - maybe it is the season terrain that triggers it ? Anyhow, this is a Lock On only problem.
DayGlow Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 like I said, all my heatblur problems were with ATI drivers. Once I moved to Nvidia they went away. Anyone else that made the video card jump confirm this? Would be nice to narrow it down some. BuzzU Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 I've never saw the need for heat blur unless I was watching a replay, and it works ok then with my ATI. Buzz
