It was a joke. From reading other posts over there i dont think its a case of they wanted it but couldnt get it. It looks more like a case of they looked at it but decided it wasnt worth their time.

I'd sign up to inform "VRS Varmint" of the correct situation but I have to purchase VRS first - something i meant to do a few weeks ago actually.

 

Could somebody else who own VRS post Matt's clarification over there.

Just make sure you don't buy a copy from a retail store, because you have to pay them -more- money just for the right to post on the forums.

 

I paid $29.99 at Fry's for the thing, which is a "heavily discounted price" (their words in an email to me) versus the $44.95 on VRS' own store, that doesn't include forum support. If I want the rights to post on the forum there, I have to pay an extra $6.

 

Let me get this straight. You want me to pay VRS more money because this product I purchased that in no way stated anywhere on the packaging that it was some sort of "discount" product that didn't include forum support, which I can't even think of one game/company/publisher that doesn't include it for free, so that I can have my support questions answered by other users, who don't get paid, and post any skins I'd like to make that support their customers, and not get paid for those either.

 

I'm extremely bitter about the whole thing quite honestly, and this unprofessional display by VRS in that trolling post doesn't endear me to them much either.

Well, I fully understand your point but on the other hand..it's a good tactic, prevents just anyone from joining the forums and start spam posting...and also " Mods " are spending more time just answering questions to their product..

 

If I remember correctly " VRS " is just a small group of individuals forming this company and have devoted many many long hours putting together their product..they just don't have the resourse's like companies ie: UbiSoft, Blizzard and so forth to hire a huge staff to monitor forum proceedings..

 

Same goes for ED/DCS as they too are a fair size company they too can't afford a large group to hire to monitor they forums..but luckily they have devoted Simmers who police it for them..thats what make's ED/DCS so great..members who really care....

Also remember that there is some rather heavy software piracy in the FSX addon world and as such, they have to resort to locking out pirates by making them pay. Sounds quite reasonable to me. Not to mention that I would gladly have paid $50+ for their product due to its extremely high systems fidelity.

Funny. I got FSX Gold Ed + Accelerator for $24 @ EB Games. Bought VRS Superbug from Avsim for $44 and haven't paid anything else. Could join the forum with no issues.

+1 on the dedication of DCS forums. I would be more than happy to do voulentary work for ED and I am sure other people would too. Dedication and support from customers and fans is a really important part to making a strong company that puts passion before profit;)

Been awhile since, but I think as you are registering at VRS forums..you have to provide the registration key # to VRS Superbug ..to gain access..so in fact you are paying to enter their forums...

Every producer has to grant you support - even if bought from a retailer at a reduced price as long it is not sec-hand.

What I don't understand is why are you complaining about access to VRS forums here..didn't you send in a support ticket enquiring why you can't have access to the forums..or maybe you have to submit a request for access to the forums..from the Moderator's I think it just might be the later...but an interesting point though....:thumbup:

 

And PeterP is right you should have started your own thread and not derail this one...better yet taken up this problem with VRS..

Allright gentlemen, it's been fun, but judging by the level of OT in the last couple pages I think this topic has run it's course.
