Buzpilot Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 (edited) I messed around with Tileproxy, 3 years ago,but had completely forgot how stunning it was. Was really fun a while but not motivating for me without weapons back then. Could be great if it could be possible to upgrade surface textures with satellite images, not necessarily like Tileproxy did it, downloadable addons would probably work fine too. ( not sure how it would look with trees ) Edited June 19, 2012 by Buzpilot i5 4670 - Sabertooth Z87- GTX Titan - Dell U3011 30" - 2x8GB RAM 1800 - Samsung 840 EVO 512GB SSD - Warthog HOTAS - CH Pro pedals - TrackIR5 - Win7 64bit EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE
winz Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Satellite images are great when you fly high. When you get down they look terrible, they don't have the necessary resolution and look blurry, have flat residential areas, phantom roads/rivers, missaligment with 3D ground object, shadows based on the time of the day they were took.. etc, etc.... Boberro Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 There were tries but it sooner finished than really started. Dunno why. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ

I agree, white clouds on ground don't look that good :) But the resolution near ground can look good too. There were tries but it sooner finished than really started. Dunno why. I belive why it stopped was the public map providers managed to block Tileproxy. Sceptre Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 If you use 104_Mustang's wonderful high res noise texture mod and the more dense grass mod (can't remember who this is by) then DCSWORLD looks 1000000x better than Sattelite images! To me anyway:D Also, ED gave all their scenery away for free!! RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
amalahama Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Landsat maps are free and I think they're under GNU license. But don't expect more than 15 m/pix and very artificial colors... Regards!
