This has been discussed somewhere else, but I did not find a dedicated thread in the wishlist sector of the forum.

I would like to request for the official support of stereographic 3D in coming releases of DCS world, with Nvidia 3D vision and/or some other software (DDD, iZ3D etc.).

The discussion in

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87102&highlight=3D

in particular, posts #33 and #38, have made it clear that, while DCS A10C works with Nvidia 3D vision to certain extent, there are definitely some issues. In particular, the HUD is not focused at infinity, thus making gun-aiming very awkward.

Please bring this feature to an official level. This would make this game so much more immersive and engaging. Since now DCS World is still in its beta stage, I feel that it is the right moment to make this request.

Please consider.

Cheers.

Just for the sake of clarity...:;)

"Official 3D support" is the job of the GPU manufacturer/3D plug-in programmer.

It's not the job of ED/TFC ! - as long they follow the DirectX SDK's from Microsoft and don't implement isolated applications that are not documented anywhere in the DX SDK's.

Because:

A DirectX render is already "3D" and only has to be rendered twice by the plug-in that is in use.

So once again - It is the Job of the GPU/Plug-in manufacturer to make it work with your hardware.

-point-

Nonetheless there is a true glitch/flaw/bug regarding the HUD. And it looks that only ED/TFC is able to fix this.

I can experience/reproduce this bug in any DCS version with the IZ3D drivers on a AMD GPU.

Here is the posting that describes it fairly well:

Nate to the rescue! smile.gif

I also made my own thoughts how I can show you the issue - so the discussion "it is right/is it wrong ?!" comes finally to an end....

so I prepared last night a video that illustrates what is wrong with the HUD, and how it is rendered in-game.

It is sure no problem with a 2D projection - but it becomes a big issue in stereoscopic 3D:

I hope that now even the last person understand were the problem is buried. And I fear that only ED can fix this to our full satisfaction.

And here again the outcome of this

Please read here the following postings for further information : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1438340#post1438340

Want to try it your self ?! - here are IZ3D drivers that are working in 64bit:

iZ3DDriverSetup.1.10b3 (1.09.0034) is working with DCS 1.1.1.1 64Bit !

Tested with AMD catalyst 12.1

(The newest IZ3D 1.12 is not working)

AA setting in game will not work - you will have to force AA settings with the CCC.

Download iZ3DDriverSetup.1.10b3.exe

Thanks for pointing that out Peter. What I meant by official support is precisely the fix of the HUD issue.

Is this problem fixed in 1.2.0? I cannot test it myself. Any of you have tried S3D on 1.2.0?

Still not getting acceptable frames in 3d vision for me to be playable. It feels clunky.

There also seems to be an issue with smoke/dust on ground units as they move as it renders the image twice in 3d.

Recently I've been playing FC2 with 3D Vision. The in-cockpit view looks truly stunning, especially when the convergence is adjusted properly. The sad truth is that, the better it looks, the more inaccurate the gunsight is. Last night I wasted all my bullets in a dogfight, not one of them hit anything. I even tried to close one of my eyes, and still it's close to impossible to aim: the gunsight is just off by too much. Then I switched back to 2D, and all went well..

I haven't tried DCS yet, although I have a key for A10C. But according to what I could read here, it's not any better, if not worse, than FC2..

Please do something about it... Thanks!

Guys/Gals that are using the P-51D in 3d should have a look at this:

Attached Files zip.gif 3D HUD Demo for P-51D.zip (36.9 KB, 3 views)

This is only a demo how a working 3d HUD should be.

Copy the contend of "Demo HUD for 3d- only fixed gun-sight is working" into you DCS World installation.

- and as the title says: only the fixed gun-sight is working.

But it should be far better than what you have up to now.

Use the "default 1.2.1 files" to revert back and only use "Demo HUD for 3d- with debugging On" when you want to edit the files yourself and you know what you are doing - don't ask me for help.!.

Here is a image that should give you a idea how the gun-sight is drawn now:

>>> Demo for a HUD that works in stereoscopic 3D

Only post in the above link when you know what you are doing . -please don't clutter it with requests for a fix.

I've asked for this several times for years, since FC1, and I've been mostly ignored. At least nowadays people know about stereoscopic gaming and I'm not alone on this anymore.

I'd like a collimated HUD so bad in BS. (and if they lower the price this christmas, for a-10 also :) )

Hope this problem gets sorted before affordable, high quality HMD's hit the market over the next couple of years. This could really make for a compelling sim/VR experience without having to build your own cockpit and install a home projector setup. Maybe it will be fixed with EDGE?

I am back to nag again. Please do 3D...

just accidentally saw this thread. 3D is working virtually flawlessly for a few months now for A-10C (and Huey and Mi8) thanks to PeterP and Lafuneste who fixed the HUD problem, which makes all the difference! You can find the fix somewhere on LOF (lock on files).

Hope this helps!

You are not kidding me, right?

Gonna try it after work today. Will try not to cry in joy in case you were serious...
