GunnDawg Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I have been reading posts, watching tutorials, and jumping into some of the training missions. However I still find my self quite lost in a few things. Feel free to try and make clear on any or all of these  1. Once I point a target in the TGP, how do I slave the MAV to the TGP? 2. When working with JTAC I feel more comfortable punching in the coordinates on my own instead of having them datalink it to me, any way to not accept their datalink and go on with manual coords? 3. Lets say JTAC gives me my coords, I input them in giving the name "JTAC1", change my steerpoint to JTAC1. How do I slave all sensors to that steerpoint? (JTAC1). 4. When I press "C" to center the current SOI sensor it centers it for just that second but doesnt stay centered with me. Because of that I often lose its symbol in the HUD making it extremely hard to figure out where my MAV or TGP is at. 5. I suppose allowing JTAC to send me coords would be ok but I also dont understand the whole "hooking" aspect and how I am supposed to use that. Video tutorials and such have "kind of" showed how but didnt give much info. Anyways, I appreciate any and all help on these questions. Will help me get a bit more familiarized with the sim!
Nate--IRL-- Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 1 - You can't slave the MAV to the TGP per se, you create the SPI with the TGP and slave the MAV to the SPI 2 - Not my areas of expertise TBH 3 - Set Waypoint as SPI - Slave sensors to SPI or waypoint. 4 - Need more detail on this what sensor is SOI when you do this? 5 - Place Cursor on the TAD over an icon TMS UP Short to "Hook" it, then TMS UP LONG with the cursor away from any icons, to set that "Hooked" item as SPI. GunnDawg Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Alright so how is an SPI created? All of these SOI, SPI, etc, etc get me really confused.
TurboHog Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 2 - When you receive a datalink you can either accept or decline the DL in the TAD. Left side of the screen (OSB 19) is to accept 'WILCO' Right side of the screen (OSB 7) is to decline 'CNTCO' Page 321 and 322 in manual for further reference. 'Frett'
FreeFall Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Alright so how is an SPI created? Move TGP cursor over target and press TMS Forward Long to set as SPI. If you have set the target as SPI, you can use the Slave All to SPI command by pressing China Hat Forward Long. The Mav will be there.
GunnDawg Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Thank you guys! Ready to give it a shot now!
FreeFall Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 All of these SOI, SPI, etc, etc get me really confused. That's normal. Millions of abbreviations. Takes time to digest them all. Don't worry.
GunnDawg Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 To set the SPI to the current WP/Steerpoint do I just make the HUD SOI and use China Hat Forward Long? I figure when I input my JTAC coords in it would be useful to slave my sensors to that point.
FreeFall Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Actually, IMHO, there are 4 very essential commands that u should know. If u know them, you'll be pretty OK. 1. TMS Fwd Long = Make SPI 2. TMS Aft Long = SPI to Steerpoint 3. China Hat Fwd Long = Slave all to SPI 4. China Hat Aft Long = Slave TGP to Steerpoint
GunnDawg Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 TMS Aft Long = SPI to Steerpoint Does the HUD or TGP have to be SOI for that to happen?
FreeFall Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Doesn't matter. I mean TAD, TGP, HUD, AIM-9, MAV... whatever will do, AFAIK.
GunnDawg Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 So in theory if I input JTACS coords to lets say waypoint 4, select waypoint 4, use TMS Aft Long, then China Hat Aft Long then my TGP should be aimed at waypoint 4 (JTACS cords), correct?
Eddie Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 So in theory if I input JTACS coords to lets say waypoint 4, select waypoint 4, use TMS Aft Long, then China Hat Aft Long then my TGP should be aimed at waypoint 4 (JTACS cords), correct? Yes, although it the example you use there is no need for TMS Aft Long. China Aft Long slaves the TGP to the current steer point regardless of the active SPI generator.
FreeFall Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 China Aft Long slaves the TGP to the current steer point regardless of the active SPI generator. Agree.
GunnDawg Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Alright then I suppose its time to keep practicing. The only JTAC practice mission I have starts me cold and dark so usually takes about 7 - 10 mins just to get airborne. Can you suggest any mission that starts you out ready to go and utilizes JTAC?
FreeFall Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I'm not sure if this is the one I mean (I'm away of my sim computer ATM), but check it out: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1300097&postcount=10
GunnDawg Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Whenever I enter the JTACS "Golf Golf" coords and select it as the steerpoint its always like 800+ miles away. I dont get this.
FreeFall Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 You have to choose the right grid zone: 37T or 38T
GunnDawg Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 I get an input error when trying to insert my coords next to the 38T button.
GunnDawg Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 I am not entirely sure. I just plug in the GGXXXXX coord in and assign it. Not sure how to switch 38T and 37T
FreeFall Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Just type the coords, and enter with CDU. The 37T or 38T should be visible anyway on CDU.
Eddie Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I only see 38T visible Well, change it to 37T then. ;)
