Wackforce Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Hi, I'm looking around for a new stick and both TM warthog and Saitek X65 are tempting. I tried my friends Logitech G940 system and it didn't go well for me. Personally I just didn't like it too much. But my skepticism about the other two mentioned are the force sensing, the stick itself don't move but react to my applied force input. I do have the money to buy one but it's too expensive to just take a chance and hope it's ok. And I was hoping if there was an opportunity to, example, buy the Saitek twin throttle and another stick that do move. Any ideas? I will mostly use for BS2 and heli sims. Thanks
PeterP Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) I will mostly use for BS2 and heli sims. :music_whistling:(sorry) You are still asking yourself ?!? Serious : Get a FFB stick!!! (Honest : there is a high possibility that I'm a little biased...but once you used the "force-trim" like it is meant to be - you will never look back.) A MSFFB2 would be ideal (FFB wise) - but it has lack of buttons (makes only really fun in a combat sim after some heavy moding..) - so you probably have to look at a G940. And the G940 can be also very satisfying - you only have to use the"right" setting to get the most out of it: >>> The G940. a guide... - ED Forums Edit: or a combo of a MSFFB2 together with the throttle unit of a Warthog makes also very much sense when in the BlackShark. - the Warthog throttle will compensate the few buttons on the MSFFB2. >>> Microsoft FFB2 joystick buying advice But also plan to get rudders - you will need them badly in a Helicopter. -------------------------- I just looked at your post-count and your join-date. Wackforce Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 PeterP: thanks for the links and for your opinions. Very helpful! DarkEagle: You're right, the TM stick does move. That makes it much more interesting :) I don't know where I got that idea from. (I have a nasty tendency to tell myself funny stories I never heard before, maybe a link there) Reading at the Saitek website the X65F is force sensing. (-1) Anyway, good news about the warthog though. I've been looking at pedals and found heli-pedals with foot-moving only, not the legs, witch I found very interesting. Well, this is still a future investment, but nice to trawl the market ahed before buying something expensive as this. I'm definitively more close to the TM warthog now. :) The two sim I play are DCS and RoF. Two brilliant sims in their own way. I'm not on weapons yet in BS2 as controlling the aircraft are still a challenge. I learned a full C&D startup and now practice flying, TO, landings and hover only. Yes, this is my first writing here and thanks for the warm welcome. Keep the blades flapping :) 1

[/b] I think that stick grip replacement and using the second USB controller for a new set of buttons is the best solution... but for me the number of MSFFB2 buttons is sufficient. Though I have DIY throttle assy with a lot of buttons, switches, tumblers, etc and CH throttle quadrant in hot reserve. :) Ніщо так сильно не ранить мозок, як уламки скла від розбитих рожевих окулярів There is nothing so hurtful for the brain as splinters of broken rose-coloured spectacles. skouras Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) TM warthog stick brilliant excellent i get a slack on stick after one year and a half as many others have problems don't forget the throttle one however i was able to replace the o-ring inside the base with a plastic one and now is perfect i have the cougar one also my advise go for another stick if you don't want to spent money on a hardware like this-- on the other hand you will be lucky and see no problems at all.. Pilotasso Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 There is not more slack on my warthog than the day I opened the box. The grip is very solid. .
skouras Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 the problem it doesn't exist on everybody but some users have report a slack on the stick do a research and you will found out;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]W10(64bit)Asus Rog Strix Z370-F - i7 8700K - Dark Rock Pro 4 - 16 giga ram Corsair vengeance 3000 - MSI RTX 2070 Super - Asus Rog Phobeus soundcard - Z906 Surround speaker - Track ir5 - HOTAS Warthog

Wackforce Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 http://www.pro-flight-trainer.ch/en/ This looks tempting though. I'm not that big fan of FF. Sesitive movement is a higher priority for me. It's going to be the TM WH for me first, and maybe later a collective stick. And I have been looking at this pedals I'm thinking about going to get when possible. Exactly the kind I look for. Foot moving only, not the legs and knees. http://www.simkits.com/product.php?prodid=313 So now it's time to get buzzy building a casing for the stick when extended. :) Thanks for all good input guys.
BudgieSmuggler Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 http://www.pro-flight-trainer.ch/en/ This looks tempting though. I'm not that big fan of FF. Sesitive movement is a higher priority for me. I bought a set of those, mainly for flight training practice. The extra sensitivity is good, esp. for small helicopters in X-plane but is not so much required for DCS BS. I had lots of problems with build quality though, mainly related to cheap potentiometers - they had to send some replacements and I already used three of them. Also the pedals resolution isn't good, they only move through 30% or so of the potentiometer travel and the centre position jumps around a lot. Lastly the whole thing is a bit light so the base plate moves around a bit. I ended up disconnecting the pedals and using some saitek pedals mounted to a steel plate. That solved most of the problems. I haven't really used it much yet though, I started fixed wing flight training and the only heli sim I play for "fun" is BS, which is fine on TM Warthog or Logitech G940. For reference, G940 FFB is quite good, the joystick holding trim centre in BS helps a lot. People here seem to complain about build quality issues but so far no problems here, maybe I just got lucky. The pedals have a v. strong centre notch though, yesterday I opened it up and removed the spring and that seems better at least for P51. Haven't tried BS yet. PS. I worked out a way to justify the cost of expensive controllers. Just look seriously into real flight training, suddenly controllers don't look quite so pricey. Especially down here in .au!
Wackforce Posted July 28, 2012 Author Posted July 28, 2012 You mean the pedals from Simkits? I would think they are good quality for that price... The first link was just me dreaming. I going for the TM. Found a store in norway that sell them for 2350 NOK (388 $).
