Looking at how DCS has evolved over the last few year I started thinking last night that a separate module focusing on Air control may be finally feasible.

Here is what i was thinking as the constitute components of the module:

  1. Air Traffic Contol: Akin to the ATC mod known to the FC1/2 crowd. It would allow a designer to designate the tower at the airfield as "client" whereupon the client could direct traffic and serve to vector flights to both target and tankers.
  2. FAC: Setting the UAV to client would again allow a player to fly the UAV and serve both a recon and FAC role. High fidelity AFM for the predator and sensors. High fidelity for radio comms and marking. F-menue abilities to issue 9-lines to allied flights. Takeoff/landing etc.
  3. JTAC: High fidelity Humvee modelling, enterable/exitable avatar. Enhanced evasion and masking probabilities from enemy detection. Map abilities to define HIDACZ, Minimum risk routes, FLOT, Airspace coordination areas, Restricted fire areas etc. WITH the ability to enforce authorized attacks.

I am kind of seeing it as one module that contains all of the above to a much deeper level of fidelity than i ave yet to put thought into.

Very good idea!

I would have a lot of fun spending my Saturday nights as a ATC in a tower.

...and sorting out landing priority for these that have "only" am missing engine with these that have also missing wings :D

Aha!

Seems Laud knows more than we....

A really good thing to add would be to choose radio calls from a pre-set dialogue - you only have to add your parameters like heading, FL and so on.. - to talk others in that don't have team-speak enabled.

I do! :D And my squadmates too!

Pfft... Is it too much to ask for a TS installation? ;)

For some people they can't or don't like talking to people themselves. I'm one of them so I use chat in conjunction with listening to people on TS, works fine for me.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

My main problem with TS is that DCS crashes everytime alt+tab out to connect to a TS. Even if i connect to a server i find myself almost always alone in TS because nobody uses it (at least on the unlocked servers; i am currently not a member of any squad).

No problem - sure you can ask them.

But adding the possibility to send them radio-calls in-game would make it "complete" and it would work just out of the box.

:)

Btw:

A good friend of mine works at a rehabilitation centre for disabled persons and I installed /set up for some of his clients already nav-track/trackir and so on . And I also introduced some of them into DCS....

Some of them can't speak fluently - but they are much faster in controlling a mouse pointer by their head as I could do it with my hand...

Further:

It would be easy-peasy for me to recruit a whole ATC crew that could control whole Georgia after some short training.

I think some of them would really like this idea... instead spending their whole day in World-of-Warcraft or second-life...

- I hope you get my point -

:)

Indeed there are people that love flying and there are as well those who like to be controller. I even know some!
