Guest Izoul123 Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Can't believe I haven't seen this before! Really neat clip! Some nice TGP and HUD gun action to check out. I'm amazed how low they go on some of the gun runs, watch the radar alt when you can as the 30MM shakes the hell out of the plane when fired lol and it does get blurry (understandably). Kinda wish the sim had an option for that as well to exaggerate it more. I know I've watch documentaries to on the A10 and the pilots say it scares the shit out you the first time the cannon is fired as it seems it's going to shake the aircraft apart! One question though, the "XMT" that flashes towards the top of the TGP, obviously I assume that means transmit, but what specifically is being transmitted/how/what are the parameters for this to appear? I don't think I've ever seen it in the sim so far, unless I'm just completely spacing it out? I'll have to go fly in a bit after my steak is done on the grill, but I don't recall seeing this in the sim....any ideas?? :pilotfly: Anyway, after seeing this, hats off to ED for doing such a damn good job replicating the TGP and HUD! Either that or someone is very good at video editing DCS overlayed onto real footage and fooled me lol.

It's the pod datalink, and it is transmitting the live pod video to a ground or airborne observer, such as a JTAC with a ROVER terminal. And it's a feature of the LITENING and SNIPER XR pods themselves, not the aircraft that carry them. You won't see it in the sim, because it isn't modelled. ;)
Guest Izoul123 Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Ah! Thank you Eddie for the quick reply! Might be a neat feature to somehow add this into Combined Arms some day on a wishlist as an integrated feature somehow for the folks on the ground. :) Thanks again for the explanation!
jazjar Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 *Sigh* they're much better pilots than I am, of course. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

WildBillKelsoe Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Someone should sit with taliban and film the gau-8 discharged at his face.. The best sound a foot soldier could hear, is the sound of the avenger farting bullets at the enemy. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............ AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
Invader ZIM Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I am rather fond of this video. JTAC is talking the two a-10's onto the targets, you can hear the small arms fire after the JTAC on the ground. Helps me to realise the importance and urgency of doing correct target ident.

Best sound for everybody, including the taliban, if the shells are going faster than the sound then if you're still alive to hear the sound they missed. :D Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Guest Izoul123 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 On an AC-130, the entire aircraft kicks when they fire the 105mm.:) I've seen a few documentaries on that beast as well! That has to be a somewhat surreal experience the first few times you feel the aircraft kick sideways for sure lol. I'm sure all the old timers always laugh at the reactions to first time airmen on the craft when they experience the first round going off! Has to be neat as hell! I wonder if they ever get minor sea sickness when they are really railing rounds down rapidly from the 105 and 40 'rocking the boat' heh. I wish there was a Disneyland place for place for old men, except no kid rides, no kids, and just a sandbox area say the size of Nevada flagged off that one could experiment and play/fire off with all of these incredible military weapons platforms as a civilian for like a $5000 vacation package. Oh well, I can dream.
