MudRat02 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 G'day all, I've been mucking around with a Mirage III just for the hell of it (probably won't bother putting it anything, but I might if I get the time), but there's something that's just not right about it. Its still in the very early stages, but although the fuselage shape and inlets from the side and top view (and cross referencing with photos) look ok, the front doesn't seem to match up. I need some opinions :smilewink: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
aaron886 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 First thing I would do is check your plans. There's no guarantee that they're right.
NRG-Vampire Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 It should have a much longer, slimmer nose. That is not a Mirage IIIE with much longer, slimmer nose :book:
MudRat02 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Yeah its an E/O, so short nose ;) I've got several three views, they agree though and I would have thought they were close enough to get the body right. Probably just down to a few hours of tweaking on the weekend. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
badger66 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Looks like a Mirage F1 from the front ..... I was always under the impression that the lower fuselage was more or less straight across from wing to wing ?
MudRat02 Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) Looks like a Mirage F1 from the front ..... I was always under the impression that the lower fuselage was more or less straight across from wing to wing ? I think that might be the issue; the Mirage III has a bit of a bulge between the wings there, perhaps not as much as what my jet has though. I'm a bit flat out during the week but I'll put some of these changes in this weekend. Hopefully it will result in a pretty hot looking french bird being posted in this thread (one way or the other) Edited June 7, 2014 by MudRat02 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
john_X Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 it looks fine to me, both the shape and the blueprints of what i see on the internet http://www.freewebs.com/aiewebsite/Mirage-3-EA.jpg http://www.cavok-aviation-photos.net/Argentina/Mirage3EA.jpg
MudRat02 Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) Well, now that I've got a bit more time up my sleeve, I've been tooling around with the Mirage. I think I've solved the issue with the discrepancies, but the model is far from complete and sitting at 9k on the poly count. Edited June 7, 2014 by MudRat02 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
speckfire Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Great work. I look forward to it...it's going to be a phenomenal addon along with the coming mig-21 Speed is life !!!
MudRat02 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Came back to the Mirage IIIO/E after a bit of an absence from modelling, and re-did pretty much the whole thing. I'm now happy that the airframe is accurate. Few finishing touches (note bits missing from the two bottom pics, and the jet pipe is just a placeholder) and I'll be on to everything else... Midnight Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Uh uhm....while you are busy, maybe fiddle with the nose a bit and chuck on a couple of canards to get this.... http://i39.tinypic.com/fjlt9e.jpg
MudRat02 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Copy that. The Cheetah is on my to-do list, however it will require some extensive modifications. The plan is to do the IIIE and IIIC (which won't require much re-working of my current model). From there there's plenty of variants that can be created with little effort (except the cockpit), ie. Mirage 5, IIIO, IIIR, IIIS, ROSE, IAI Shahak and Nesher. The Kfir and Cheetah require a bit more, due to the different wing, the changes to the fuselage shape, different canopy .ect. I intend to get there at some point, though. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MudRat02 Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 Any updates? Sorry for the delay mate, Not much to show for the last few months actually. A forum member was kind enough to give me a set of Mirage IIIO Manuals including the flight manual, maintenance manuals and weapons employment manual (so I'm not lacking info fortunately!). In there I found some good reference pictures to improve the accuracy of my jet such as the interior of the intakes, sections of the wing and tail .ect. At the moment though, working on the cockpit because the exterior was frustrating me :smilewink: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
