Looking for a serious squadron to join.

I've been around A10 for a while and have been in a few different squadrons before. My experience so far. There are squadrons out there that say they implement true to life SOP but after the training period it all comes down to just flying around and blowing $%#@ up. I'm looking for a serious squadron with the "do it right or get a $%^# out mentality. People who don't have to drop a single bomb or fire a single missile to have fun as long as it's done right. I want train lead - wing support tactics, tac turns , brevities etc.. until its a second nature. I would like to learn from someone that really knows the stuff .Anybody?

A squadron that says it is true to reality, yet has a training period, is contradicting itself. The training never stops. Hopefully neither does the learning.

I hope you find that you are looking for though, and good luck. Also, be prepared for memorization, repetition, and precision.

We're currently not recruiting but in the 476th our training program is growing and constantly evolving. We’re developing videos to go with each level broken down in sequential sessions, have weekly scheduled training sorties, and provide one-on-one training. Although we currently only support DCS A-10C (we stopped supporting the Ka-50 because lack of interest and applicants) we plan on supporting other DCS level aircraft (fixed and rotary wing), released by ED and 3rd parties so our training is broken down with the hope to eventually include a dedicated trainer ACFT for Initial Qualification Training.

The process goes as follows:

  • Initial Qualification Training (IQT)

  • Trainee has 60 days to successfully (Q or Q- rating) evaluation sorties, granted Basic Mission Ready (BMR) pilot rating.
  • Fixed Wing Training covers:
    • Basic ground ops
    • Takeoff procedures
    • Departure procedures
    • Approach procedures
    • Landing procedures
    • Basic flight maneuvers
    • Basic formation flying
    • Navigation Tools
    • Night Operation

[*]Airframe Specific Mission Qualification Training (MQT)

[*]Trainee has 60 days to successfully (Q or Q- rating) evaluation sortie(s), granted Combat Mission Ready (CMD) pilot rating.

    [*]A-10C Training covers:

    • Aircraft fam (currently in IQT since we only fly A-10)
    • Air-to-Air Refueling procedures
    • Tactical Formations
    • Line Formation Maneuvers
    • Basic DSMS use
    • Basic TAD use
    • Emergency Procedures (again, currently in IQT)
    • Range Operation

    [*]Airframe Specific Weapons School

[*]Training is optional but highly encouraged; pilots that wish to participate must complete MQT prior to acceptance into the program. Pilots must successfully (Q or Q- rating) complete evaluation sortie(s), granted Weapons Instructor (WI) pilot rating.

    [*]A-10C Training covers:

    • Basic A/G Theory
    • A/G Combat Tactics & Procedures
    • AFAC Controlled Combat
    • Forward Firing Ordnance - GAU/8A Employment
    • Forward Firing Ordnance - 2.75” FFAR Employment
    • Free Fall Unguided Munitions – Mk-80 series
    • Free Fall Unguided Munitions – CBU-87/97
    • Free Fall Unguided Munitions Employment
    • Guided Munitions – AGM-65 Maverick
    • Guided Munitions – Paveway Series LASER Guided Bombs
    • Guided Munitions – Inertially Aided Munitions

    [*]Lead Pilot Qualification Training

[*]Training is optional but highly encouraged; pilots that wish to participate must complete Weapons School prior to acceptance into the program. Pilots must successfully (Q or Q- rating) complete evaluation sortie(s), granted Lead Pilot (LP) pilot rating.

    [*]Training Covers:

    • Lead fundamentals

[*]Airborne Forward Air Controller (AFAC) Training

[*]Training is optional but highly encouraged; pilots that wish to participate must be LP rated prior to acceptance into the program. Pilots must successfully (Q or Q- rating) complete evaluation sortie(s), granted Airborne Forward Air Controller (AFAC) special certification.

    [*]Training covers:

    • In Development

Although we run our own V-Squadron. i would like to say something about the 476th.

Great attitude, very helpful (even to other squads), excellent training program, and a superb group. You wont be disappointed.

We just formed the Virtual Tactical Air Group after all the DCS pilots left the 1st VFW due to some decisions made by the 1st VFW leaders. We'll be flying everything DCS, and will focus on getting a realistic battlefield experience by integrating ground, fixed wing, and rotary wing human players.
