Saitek X52 (non pro) OR Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X?

Greetings everyone!

I'm in need of a new joy, and after researching quite a bit i've come down to two choices:

Saitek X52 FLight System

Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X

Currently I'm using an old Logitech so I'm sure either one would be a major improvement, but I'd like to ask all of you which one you think is best and will last in terms of quality.

The prices in my country (South Africa) are a tad high but here they are anyway:

The Thrustmaster is about $88 while the Saitek is $109, so I don't mind putting in the extra $20.

I'll be using it of course for DCS A10 and FC2.

Thanks everyone!

I have both, and I would say without a doubt that the Thrustmaster is the way to go. Best joystick I have ever used, and it is so well buildt.

I dont get how TM is 88$, it should be the other way around? It is the very best you can get..

The TM is actually like $40 on Amazon so $88 is quite high. I'll look into the international shipping options perhaps but otherwise I'm still undecided.

Id go for the X-52, the abundance of buttons easily puts it above the T.Flight Hotas. Especially in A10 you have lots of functions and modes of which youll want to have as much on your Joystick as possible. Without TrackIR youll also need a hat for the Cockpit View, which is bad if you only have one on your joystick. On the X-52 you have 3 Hats and a mini mouse, which can be used to view around in the cockpit. Needless to say I ended up with each hat mapped with 2+ functions and the cockpit mouse.

The T.Flight Hotas might be nice for some easier sims, but for a study sim like DCS:A10C its not going to cut it.

Yeh id go the X-52 also, I own the t.flight. Wasnt long after getting a-10 that i found the need to updrade. also it doesnt show it in the picture but the cable between the joystick and hotas isn't very long, it was hard having the joystick and hotas either side of my keyboard and having to use the mouse.

If you have a Facebook and/or twitter enter the competition from Thrustmaster, it ends at the end of the month and you have the opportunity to win a warthog.

Sorry.

I though we where talking about the TM warthog. My fault.. I couldnt understand why you guys could get the warthog so cheap, until I read it was the TM Hotas x. ;)

I would definitely choose x52!

I have also owned a hotas x, and the wire length between the throttle and the joystick is too short in the HOTAS X, and there isnt enough buttons for sims like DCS.

But all in all an okay joystick anyway. Feels good, in someways better than the x52. They both have their differences, but the x52 is more suited for flight simulations because of the many features and buttons it has.

Haha no worries. I was about to say you probably thinking of the Warthog.

Otherwise thanks for the replies so far guys. I'll get the X52 if I can.

I'm a big fan of thrustmaster sticks, almost all of mine have been TM. I currently fly with a TM Hotas X, the feel of it is great and it lasts for ever!

That being said, for DCS A10 the x52 is the way to go, simply due to the gratuitous amounts of buttons. Unfortunately I found it quite nasty for my hand, using it for rudder was awkward and it started spiking and dying within 3 years

Thanks for the post. Besides the extra buttons is there any other major difference between the TM and Saitex control and stick quality wise etc? Or is a joystick just a joystick? Because I may have to get the TM if the X52 price is actually more than listed which could be possible.

I just don't want to be dissapointed with the TM.

The TM is a good stick and if we were talking about flying a WWI aircraft, I would recommend it. However, the lack of buttons is a killer. It can be done but the X-52 is far better suited for a modern warplane.

I currently own both as well as a Warthog and others, btw.

Okay well I went and ordered the X52 from Amazon via International Shipping. It cost me an arm and a leg so I hope I won't be disappointed. :pilotfly:

You won't be

I had the Hotas X and agree with all the other posts here, it's fine for FC2 but for A-10 it was a bit of a struggle. I now have the X-52 Pro + Saitek combat pedals and am a much happier bunny
