MeerCaT Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 In the mission editor I don't see Su-25T (or even Su-<anything>) in the list of available aircrafts in the "Airplane Group" Type list. I just know it's available somewhere/somehow... isn't it? Surely!

For example the Su-25T will not be listed when a Fighter Sweep role is selected. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

maturin Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 The editor isn't terribly user-friendly. Look forward to a variety of quirks.

Echo38 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 That may well be, but this wasn't one of them. Well, it isn't exactly great that we can't select aircraft unless we've chosen the right role type for it. There's no way to select an aircraft from the complete list, and then choose available roles, as you can in most editors.

Do you also want to select the aircraft and have the ME give you a list of countries that you might want to fly for? racketyjack Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Echo, I think its the same thing whether you can choose the role first then the right aircraft, or the aircraft, then the role. Personally, Im of the mind that the way it is isnt a real problem, my opinion of course.
maturin Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 On the other hand, the fact that the default unit country is USA, and that the selection sticks to the (invalid) A10 after switching the country to Russia IS a problem. The menu filter is incomplete.
Jona33 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 No, you can fly the Hog/Shark/Mustang from any country. A-10 is the default aircraft. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Echo38 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Echo, I think its the same thing whether you can choose the role first then the right aircraft, or the aircraft, then the role. It isn't the same. Sometimes, I don't care what the airplanes' roles are, I simply want to know what aircraft are available. The way it's currently set up doesn't let you see that, without slowly & painstakingly going through each role. In other words, requiring us to choose the role before seeing the aircraft available for that role means that there is no way of seeing, all at once, all of the aircraft which are available. Allowing us to choose the aircraft first, and then choose the role, would let us see all of the aircraft which are available. So, the two methods are absolutely not the same, and have different functionalities. Ideally, we'd have both, because that would give new mission creators not only the ability to easily choose an airplane without knowing its assigned roles, but also the ability to quickly choose an airplane for a particular role.
joey45 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 For some it is easier but for others it is not. I like to choose the role first then pick the plane. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Echo38 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) And having the second option, in addition to the first, would make things more difficult for you? How exactly would being able to see a list of all aircraft, and choose from that, be a bad thing for anyone? That doesn't make any sense at all. [perplexed] At this point, it doesn't much matter to me--I'm now familiar enough with the editor to know that when I want an enemy A-10 to dogfight, I need to look in the "ground pound" role instead of the "fighter" role, even though the actual role I'm giving it in the mission is a fighter--but it sure was a pain to try to figure that out when I was new, what with it being already difficult for new people to find the aircraft, because of them being dependent on country as well. Nate--IRL-- Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I've just checked the ME - if you do not change the role - it gives you a full list of all the available aircraft for that coalition. If you change aircraft it will change the role for you. However, if you change the role - you will presented only with aircraft for that role. I don't see the problem. Echo38 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Huh! You're right. The problem I'm remembering came when I tried to give the A-10C a fighter role, in an attempt to get him to dogfight me. I also recall now that the role wasn't the problem (that is, the reason why he wouldn't engage me), but rather he needed a LITENING pod in order to see me (and possibly Sidewinders before he'd engage me--I don't remember if I ever tested him with LITENING and cannon only). So, the problem I originally had was that I couldn't assign A-10C to the fighter role, and that selecting fighter role changed the airplane from A-10C to something else, which confused the heck out of me at the time. Sorry, I remembered it wrong. (Nothing to see here ...)
