Echo38 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) So, I've been holding off for a few days on installing the patch because of some of the issues I've been hearing about, but it looks like the auto-updater is going to be used to take care of them, so I might as well install now. But there's still one thing which I couldn't find any official word (or, in fact, any mention) about in any of the threads, and that's deactivation loss. The latest official word is that we're supposed to deactivate when uninstalling 1.2.0, and that those who did not do so because of the initial instructions telling them not to will have their lost activations restored. But what of deactivations? If I deactivate & uninstall 1.2.0, install 1.2.1, and activate, I don't lose any activations (or, if I did, E.D. would restore it), but I will permanently lose a deactivation, and I've seen no word on restoration of those. Anyone able to link to such, or perhaps could an E.D. representative explain? Edit: solved. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1571539&postcount=15 Also: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1569245&postcount=403 Edited October 14, 2012 by Echo38
Pyroflash Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 de/Activations are restored at a rate of one per month. You will be fine if you uninstall 1.2.0 and replace it with 1.2.1. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
Echo38 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) de/Activations are restored at a rate of one per month. That isn't how it works, going by the explanations I've read. Deactivations are not restored, and activations are not added unless (and only while) you are entirely out of activations. Meaning, once you're out of activations, you'll get another in a month, but once you have it, no more will be restored until you've used that one. And if you're out of activations, you're probably out of deactivations, too, so you won't be able to deactivate if you need (for any reason) to install a second time during that month. Echo38 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) Hence my request for official word. I've seen so much misinformation flying around about this subject that, bluntly, I'm confused as heck. I tend to play games that I like for fifteen (or more) years after the date of release, so the one-per-month thing may be a real problem for me a decade or two down the road. So I really don't want to lose a deactivation (nor an activation) if I don't absolutely have to. Wags's post said, "The team is reading the feedback and is actively taking steps to remedy the problems identified in 1.2.1 to include: 1- Reimbursing used activations when updating to 1.2.1." However, I have heard a rumor that these activations will only be restored to those who lost them during the initial post-release phase (at which time the official instructions were incorrect, resulting in unexpected activation losses). This is a rumor only, and so it may or may not be true, but it adds to my uncertainty. So, if I simply uninstall 1.2.0 now, without deactivating anything, and then install and activate 1.2.1, will that destroyed activation be restored to me? Or, if I uninstall & deactivate 1.2.0, then install and activate 1.2.1, will that destroyed deactivation be restored to me? In short, is there any possible way of installing the new update without there resulting in any decrease in the number of activations and deactivations? Edited October 3, 2012 by Echo38
guitarwiz1 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 May be a stupid question, but how do you find out how many activations you have left? [sIGPIC]http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/guitarwiz1/OFCguitarwiz1.jpg[/sIGPIC] http://overfortyclan.freeforums.org
chaotikchiken Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 According to the official update page all re-activations from 1.2 to 1.2.1 have been restored. chaotikchiken Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 And deactivations? I was busy looking through other threads about someone who stated we had 10 activations/deactivations per month - I'm NOT sure which and if this information is 100% valid so please keep that in mind. Echo38 Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Yeah, as I wrote earlier, there is a ton of misinformation flying around about this, which is why I was hoping for an official word about the deactivation lost from deactivating 1.2.0.
streakeagle Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I have just downloaded all the files. Per the original topic, what is the correct sequence to follow and not lose any activations/de-activations? If I just uninstall 1.2 and install 1.2.1.5970, am I going to lose an activation? If I de-activate, uninstall 1.2, and then install 1.2.1.5970, am I going to lose a de-activation? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
