AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

Or... just use the APU?

Thanks!

I never checked if the APU actually over temps after 5 minutes running, but if it does, then Ground Power is a much better option, especially considering how long you have to wait for repairs, not to mention if the APU is part of your battle damage....

If you use the APU don't forget to turn on the APU generator before switching off the engines.

No, it doesn´t, and neither does the real one.

not to mention if the APU is part of your battle damage....

Well, in that case you need to use ground power of course (or just do the regular start up again), but for all other cases it´s way easier to just switch on the APU and the APU generator, especially since you can already do so while taxiing in, saving some time.

The APU generator is the only source of

power for electric fan cooling of the APU

hydraulic pump. Therefore. do not operate

the APU for more than 5 minutes with the

APU generator OFF.

Seems it doesn't, but only if you're not actually using it in a way that it would be of any value (No APU Gen means no power means wtf is it on for).

Still, I'd rather listen to the pleasant silence of GEP than have to sustain 5 more minutes of APU hell if I can help it. Makes those repairs all the more bearable while you wait for the countdown.

Amen to all that!

You need to read that paragraph again you quoted. APU Gen needs to stay ON for prolonged operation.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

No, I know exactly what I wrote, I just ended up doing a bad job of editing it.

Let me rewrite it: Seems it doesn't overheat, unless you're using it in a way that would be of no value (APU Gen off means no power means wtf is it on for).

Honestly the APU is kind of pointless. We can't fly from make shift airfields, the terrain in this game won't let us. With ground power available its just faster and makes less noise.

Also, I think 1.2.2 APU sound is terrible. It sounds pretty... wrong. Like you have your sound settings on analog or something with a graham cracker for a sound card.

GEP all the way.

you can't start your engines without the APU on though, can you? seeing as they use bleed air from the APU, whatever that means

You haven't heard my GPU irl. APU isn't that bad.

The APU's was newly recorded by Paulkri I think. (A-10 crew chief). There was a thread about it somewhere. But yeah GEP's nicer.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Yea unfortunately. Need the bleed air. I'm guessing thats the reason its so damned loud.

GPU normally sounds like a diesel engine running in your right ear. In game, we have a stealth GPU, so thats nice. The new APU sounds pretty much have that shrieking turbine APU sound nailed if you ask me. They can be really painful. Luckily the ones I use are miles away from me in the tail so I don't even hear them at all.

Thanks for the funny post... the APU in the A-10 is anything but useless...Plus you need more than just ground power to start the engines. In all my years working A-10s I don't recall using an air cart to start the engines, we always use the APU.

As to the sound, it is damn close and based on a recording I supplied ED some time ago.

Not doubting the accuracy of the overall sound, just think it sounds a bit low quality in terms of the sound file itself.

Yea, I was pretty full of crap about the APU. I think its just annoying to listen to it for 5 minutes, especially when you do 3 or 4 ramp starts a night.
