Daniel Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Is anybody using a Quadro FX to play DCS World? If yes, are you happy with it? Thanks. joey45 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 I believe the Quadro is designed for graphic workstations and the like and not for gaming... Or I could be completely wrong and thinking of a completely different card... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Daniel Posted November 13, 2012 Author Posted November 13, 2012 That's why I'm asking... :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] OS: Windows 10 Pro 64Bit - CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K - MB: Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero - RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4 3200 - GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX2080ti Controllers: Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals Head tracking: FaceTrackNOIR+FreeTrack 3 Points Cap VR headset: VALVE Index
SkateZilla Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Workstation Cards are designed for Workstation Rendering, not Games.... on that note, someone did have DCS Running on one with minimal/no problems, even after repeated warnings of the card being designed for Workstation flow. it's hit and miss, as some Workstation cards will play games fine, while others not so much. I remember a Gerforce 4 Ti, best chip out for a while, the Workstation version couldnt run anything, same chip and PCB, different BIOS/Memory structure. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
ARM505 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 More expensive, slower, not optimised for gaming at all - I take it you HAVE to use one and don't have a choice? Because if you have a choice, it's an obvious one. My brother had one I think, there's no point for gaming.
Raven68 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 If you have a PC that you want to use for gaming and CAD software I can see why you would ask that. I have often wondered how a workstation gfx card would perform with some of these games myself. My PC has a GeForce GTX 560 and I can run Pro/Engineer with a decent sized assembly with no problem. I know that doesn't answer your question, but I share your interest.:) Intel i5-9600K @ 3.7GHz Gigabyte Z370XP SLI Mobo G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2070 8GB 256-Bit GDDR6(Assume the latest driver version) Thermaltake Water 3.0 Certified Liquid Cooling System Windows 10 Professional Oculus Rift-S /TrackIR 5 in case VR dies Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog w/ Thrustmaster T-Flight Rudder Pedals
Marmusman Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) Is anybody using a Quadro FX to play DCS World? If yes, are you happy with it? Thanks. I ran DCS A-10C Beta and first releases on a NVidia Quadro FX 770M (workstation laptop with external monitor) with Windows XP for about 2 months. Used the 3Gb switch to get the extra memory needed. It ran, but I do not recommend it. My issues may have been due to memory limits of XP. I am not sure about the card's use with Win7. Though it did give me enough experience to decide to invest in a new computer...so I guess it was good. As stated by others in this thread, the video card is not design for gaming, so it does not officially support the types of graphics needed. The card is very powerful for AutoCAD and such, but not up to snuff for a fast moving, graphically intense flight simulator. I was able to play on multi-player servers, but the game would crash if too many explosions and smoke occurred within the game. I can only imagine that the latest version would be worse than my experiences last year. If there is no money involved, I'd say give it a shot...but don't expect too much. If you are buying hardware for it.....not worth it. [edit] my advice, if you DO go ahead with it....make sure you have the latest NVidia Drivers for the Quadro....when I first tried DCS A-10C (as beta) it would not run...then NVidia released a new driver version that just happened to address the issue, then it ran. It was just a coincidence that a fix required for AutoCAD also fixed the problem. So it is hit or miss. Edited November 13, 2012 by Marmusman
Daniel Posted November 13, 2012 Author Posted November 13, 2012 Thanks for the advice. I could get a Quadro FX 3700 for free and I wanted to know if it makes sense to use it with DCS World.
