First mission in devils cross. 2 mavs on 2 SA-19's following tanks, then circle and assign armor to wingman. other threats undetected properly. plinked by SA-15, lost CICU, EGI, INS, GPS, and yaw SAS.

CDU operational, FN 2 Divert Vaziani, TCN 22X, check.

Teet teet teeeeeeeeeeet... Teeet teeet.... <3

60 clicks out, under 2000 lbs of fuel remaining, fighting to stay above 8000 for a glide in case fuel is bingo. Wingman barely made it.

Morale: Have TCN channels ready in case shit hits the turbofan!!!

Speaking of navigation, what are the emergency procedures to acquire the homeplate in case of radio failure as well as other systems including CDU???

I tried raising Wizard but they seem to transmit only...

On a previous trial, I lost the VHF AM radio (couldn't get menu with Mic switch Fwd). Couldn't raise ATC/ AM package, so... What is the procedure for a full NAV fail? Obliged much!

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

Shoot random things on the ground on the way to the target area and follow the path of destruction back home?

That didn't work for "Hansle & Grettle" I'm thinking it will not work here. LOL:megalol:

Not only would not work, fires will extinguish by time I've expended all ordnance.

Well worst case scenario when everthing is just to hell you can always contact ATC/AWACS for vectors to home plate. You got a backup for your heading so that should work. In case your radio is shot ... well then pray that you stay inside the set corridors so that your own cap wont shoot you and navigate on landmarks.

Also this is where mutual support is for your wingman guides you home and also check for dmg. If you need to eject your wingman becomes CSAR commander on the scene and need to guide the chopper inbound or give CSAR aircraft the coordinates

smurf, I'm playing with AI... One thing though, you're partially correct. Same mission, same failures, just let him RTB and follow him visually. He ejected over some airfield though , and I didn't see any shots at him.. Maybe bingo fuel?

The real situation would involve I imagine using a radio as a homing beacon perhaps, or having an AWAC or someone on radar give you a bearing and range to target. If all this fails and you have no wingman, no comms to friendlies and no sophisticated navigational aides all you can really do is do what old school pilots had to do:

Map, compass, and good eyesite. Mix in a robust understanding of endurance range and time based on alt, weight, and remaining fuel and you can easily make a recovery.

In a game like this you can't rely on the AI help you out much, but in real life I imagine as long as your IFF worked you'd be able to fly into friendly airspace, get someone onto your wing and do funky hand signals or wing waggles in order to communicate and have someone walk you down onto a final.

I don't know if its really happened in the modern war where a pilot has lost all this stuff and made a recovery with only visual contact, but its definitely doable. Its just hard as hell and takes good map reading skills. If you were somehow without a wingman and missing I'm sure they'd be looking out for you so the reality is you're not likely to face a situation, at least in real life, where you'd not have support within a certain margin of reason (like provided you actually get out of enemy airspace and are on a likely vector to homeplate where your buddies would expect to look for you).
