Rubberduck Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Just ordered my new rig, should be here in the new year. Idea was to future proof it a little, and optimise it for running DCS. Think my original system did do very well, running 2 screens, outputting the MFD's to the second screen, on a 550Ti Nvidia card, and getting around 14 fps on the ground and 20-25 in the air. It only dropped a few with the TGP on. Setting were on medium tho :) anyway here are the specs of the new rig, bit of a beast if I do say so myself, comments welcome :) Case PCS MAELSTROM T900 BLACK GAMING CASE Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-3820 (3.6GHz) 10MB Cache Motherboard ASUS® SABERTOOTH X79: SOCKET 2011, R.O.G Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST QUAD-DDR3 2400MHz X.M.P (4 x 4GB KIT) Graphics Card 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 660 Ti - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready 2nd Graphics Card 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 660 Ti - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready Memory - 1st Hard Disk 120GB INTEL® 330 SERIES SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 500MB/sR | 450MB/sW) 2nd Hard Disk 2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD2002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm) 1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 4x BLU-RAY ROM DRIVE, 16x DVD ROM (£26) Memory Card Reader INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT Power Supply CORSAIR 750W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ TX750 V2-80 PLUS® BRONZE Processor Cooling INTEL CERTIFIED LIQUID CPU COOLER FOR SOCKET LG2011 Fan Controller AeroCool Touch 2000 LCD Touch Screen 4 Fan Controller + 2 x Front USB Sound Card Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Xtreme Audio can't wait :) Best Regards Nigel AKA Rubberduck My Dad- Always check for paper before sitting down....:music_whistling: Win7 64bBit,Intel® Core i7x4-3820 (3.6GHz), ASUS® SABERTOOTH X79, INTEL CERTIFIED LIQUID COOLING 16GB DDR3 2400MHz, NVIDIA GeFORCE GTX 680 4GB, 240GB INTEL® 520 SERIES SSD, 2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK BLU-RAY ROM DRIVE, CORSAIR 750W ENTHUSIAST SERIES, AeroCool Touch 2000 LCD Touch Screen 4 Fan Controller Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Xtreme Audio, Hotas WH, Saitek Pro-Flight Pedals & Cougar MFD's
outlawal2 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Looks like a nice rig for sure. The only comment I would make is in regards to the dual video cards running SLI.. Since DCS does not handle SLI very well, I personally would opt for ONE video card and buy the most expensive one I could afford... Like a GTX680 rather than the 2 660's... I was running 2 GTX550ti's in SLI and found DCS runs better with one.. (At least in my system anyway.) So I removed one of them and put it in one of my other boxes... But that is just my 2 cents worth.. (I am also assuming that this rig is specific for use with DCS so if you have other games that CAN utilize SLI then maybe you should disregard my recommendation..) As always the devil is in the details! ENJOY! "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
Rubberduck Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 (edited) Thanks Outlawal2, not being familiar with SLI, can you disable one of the cards on the fly, if needed? outlawal2 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Just an FYI that I am Outlawal2, not Outlaw... (I only make this distinction because there IS an Outlaw on this board and he ain't me!) Anyway, yes you can disable SLI and use a single GPU for DCS or other games, but when you do it leaves the 2nd one completely idle and unused... Also, SLI when used with games that take advantage of it, DOES perform better, but it is NOT a doubling of performance as there is quite a bit of programming overhead required to utilize SLI... A wild guess on my part would be maybe a 50 or 60% performance increase over a single GPU. I usually buy the most expensive GPU I can afford and then once it gets a little long in tooth, THEN I may buy another one and use SLI because at that point the price of the GPU has dropped through the floor. If i am building a new rig I never do the SLI thing as I feel the money is better spent on a higher family of GPU instead... "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
Rubberduck Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 Thanks, built with DCS in mind but yes, i do run other games that can utilize SLI. anyway thanks for the comments :) Best Regards Nigel AKA Rubberduck My Dad- Always check for paper before sitting down....:music_whistling: Win7 64bBit,Intel® Core i7x4-3820 (3.6GHz), ASUS® SABERTOOTH X79, INTEL CERTIFIED LIQUID COOLING 16GB DDR3 2400MHz, NVIDIA GeFORCE GTX 680 4GB, 240GB INTEL® 520 SERIES SSD, 2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK BLU-RAY ROM DRIVE, CORSAIR 750W ENTHUSIAST SERIES, AeroCool Touch 2000 LCD Touch Screen 4 Fan Controller Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Xtreme Audio, Hotas WH, Saitek Pro-Flight Pedals & Cougar MFD's
agrasyuk Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 good syetem, but for running DCS i'd get single more powerful card instead of 2 seemed like 670 4gb was within your budget Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
outlawal2 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 And understand that my comments were in no way negative, just opinions based on my own experiences... (And info from this and other forums.) Absolutely nothing wrong with your upcoming system.. You will love it! Have a good one! "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
Manuel Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 just a question: Does it really make sense to put a 2011 socket instead of the 1055 in terms of DCS? PC: Asus P8Z77-M Mainboard; Intel i5-3570K (4x3,4Ghz) mit Scythe Mugen 3 CPU Kühler; 16Gb Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz; Nvidia GTX570 1280mb; Samsung 830 SSD; Samsung HDD Flight Sim Gear: TM Warthog; Saitek Pro Pedals; TM Cougars on an 19" screen; TrackIR 5 w/ trackclip pro; Logitech G35 headset
outlawal2 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 My opinion is not necessarily for DCS, but if you are building a new system I would go with the 2011 as it is more "Futureproof".. Meaning you can upgrade more with that socket in the future than the 1055... "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO

It is a bit faster than the 330 and isn't that much more. I have the OS, DCS (all Modules), Il2-46 HSFX, COD, ROF, and Far Cry 3 on an Intel 520 Series 240GB and it uses about half of that. Keep in mind you will lose some of your capacity as a recovery disk. The Intel Tool Box and migration software is really good. Can't say enough about SSDs. Makes it just too easy. StoOopiD Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 U might be pushing the limits with a 750w PSU with a SLI rig. i hope it turns on. (fingers-crossed) i hope u checked if the ram is supported, the mobo is only rated at 1866mhz as the blue-ray drive is nice, the DVD speed is slow. not a big deal tho, installs might take alittle longer. u want like 22x or 24x DVD read speed all in all tho it looks to be a nice rig. how much did that set u back? $$$ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Crosshair VIII hero wifi, 3800x w/ Enermax 360 AIO cooler (push-pull), 32gigs DDR4 Ripjaws 3600, Win 10 home on a Plextor PCI-E x4 3gb/s HD, EVGA 2070 Super FTW3 ultra+, Soundblaster Z Rift S, M$FFB2, CH Pro throttle, Saitek pedals BS2, A10C, P51D, SPITFIRE, FC3, Uh-1H, F86, Mi-8MTV2, SA342, MIG21-bis, AV8BNA, F14, F16, FA-18C, SUPERCARRIER
