I just noticed some single player mission have a diamond target carat on the HUD ... My presumption is that this is rooted in some semblance of reality but do not understand how he targets could be preloaded like that....

Are these simply the Russian versions of what data link would look like if we actually had it working in the fc3 craft ... or are they closer to some sort of waypoint which would be preloaded prior to the mission? If I recall the f16 in falcon would have target points preloaded with the data cartridge.

Anyone inside those diamond carats as realistic?

IIRC it's targets picked up by your wingman and data-linked to you.

AFAIK it's not Su-25 specific HUD diamond... this diamond appears on every HUD of every given aircraft if you select your targets in Mission editor prior mission start. It's not realistic with the generation of aircraft featured in FC(3) as Su-27/33, MiG-29 A/S and Su-25 (T) didn't have such cues...

Will only appear when he has spotted the targets.

is it possible for us to make some kind of SPI ala A-10c, and not only rely on ally to mark targets?

The Su-25 does not have any systems like this. Targets are visually aquired. You can lock the target for YP (guided missiles) using the LASER range finder in ground stabilized mode. AFAIK there is no way to transmit this information to other planes, since it's a LASER beam from the top of your aircraft not bound to any INS/GLOSSNAS or other geo-positioning system.

This is why I love the Su-25: you need to learn navigation, learn attack patterns and visual aquirement and finally: talk to your wingman plus do a proper flight planing.
