intenseas Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Hi guys. I want to spend about $1,500 on my custom build and here is the quote I received from a local computer shop. Thoughts? I want to run 3 monitors and high setting and really want to build upon the initial platform that I purchase. All suggestions would be much appreciated. computer quote.pdf CORE I5 2500K BOX 3.3GHZ 6MB 1155, EVGA GTX 670 4GB, 8GB CORSAIR (2 X 4GB) DR3 1600 KIT, SSD 240GB INTEL 520 SSDSC2CW240A3 OEM, WIN 7 HOME PREM 64BIT, EXTREME 650W P/S PSU COOLER MASTER, THERMALTAKE V4 NO P/S MID TOWER
Cali Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I'd ditch the AMD CPU and get a 2500k or higher Intel. You don't need a 1000W PSU. I have a 750W and it works just fine. I run 3 monitors and about 10 USB devices, including 2 powered USB HUB's. Get a better video card and a SSD if you can. I built the system in my sig back in June 2012 for $1538, it runs like a dream. You can build one better for cheaper I bet. I bought all the parts from Newegg.com. I wouldn't pay that much money for that system, but I can build one myself, can you? If you can it'll save you some money and you'll know what's being put in it and have a better understanding of computers. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
agrasyuk Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Looks adequate, but I personally prefer the Intel route. Microcenter sells i5 3570K for 170$ and has nice boards for it as well. For driving more then 1 screen and at higher settings I would choose something more substantial then 660. Looking at getting 670 4gb myself. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
intenseas Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Ok, I have had the custom build quote redone. Price is $1,500 and consists of the following: GTX 670 with 2g Video High end 240GB INTEL SSD hard drive total of 16G DDR3 memory Thermaltake V4 mid tower Extreme 650W PSU Cooler master Asus 1155 P8H-77V LE Core I5 2500K Box 3.3 ghz 6MB 1155 8GB Corsair 2x4gb DR3 1600 Kit SSD 240GB Intel 520 Win 7 64 Would you change anything up? All I am cocnerned about is running DCS at the highest frame rates. Thanks again all!!! intenseas Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 So far I am considering possibly going with the 670 4gb instead of the 2gb... Manuel Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 If you can afford it, do it. Graphical memory is one of the core things in flight simulating. But consider how much you get and how much you pay for it. The last posted setup is well enough to run a multimonitor setup fluently on mid to high preferences. Don't rush over the price - advantage ratio. One more thing: if 670 4gb means 2x 670 2gb than rather dump it because dcs isn't supporting sli so much. Pyroflash Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I'd personally go for an Ivy proc (I5-3570), and also get rid of that Thermaltake case. They aren't bad from what I hear, but I am spoiled with toolless cases. Though I suppose that feature isn't really a deal breaker if you aren't building it yourself, which BTW, isn't difficult if you can read English. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115233 If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
danilop Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Have a look at attached configuration, it includes 4GB GTX 670 for $1,500. You can save $100 or so building your own machine. Check out these videos: $1500 system.pdf Edited January 8, 2013 by danilop
Quirkitized Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) If you are going to do triple screens, fullscreen, I suggest SLI. As far as vram useage, when I ran three screens @ 6000x1080 bezel corrected resolution, I had vram useage around 1.5gb to 2.3gb. This highly depends on missions being high in units or low, and your graphics setting, especially AA. I think 2gb is the sweet spot for DCS, but of course the more the better. If you plan on using multiple screens for MFD's, Gauges, etc, then don't bother with SLI for dcs, but do it for full-screen imo. just food for thought. Edited January 8, 2013 by Quirkitized
agrasyuk Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Latest build looks better. While 2500 is sertainly a good chip that is not yet obsolete newer architecture is already in place. I'd not upgrade from 2500 (or wait, just did.... darn :) ) but I don't see why take it over 3570 which is the "official" replacement . They are pretty much same price. Case is personal choice . And yes, consider building it yourself. It is not a rocket science these days. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
