MatzWarhog Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) I've got over 50hrs in the cockpit, not counting the training missions flown over and over again, and have practiced many times over on every aspect of the Sim I've learned so far. I still need to dig into Air to Air and Counter Measures, but I'm getting there next! I have a practice mission I built with a Ramp Start, engaging the practice area, and wiping the planet clean of it's inhabitants and their two AAA's, a barracks, and 5 ground vehicles. After you eliminate them all... you land and park. I killed it tonight!!! :joystick: Woohoo!!!! Might still be a little wobbly, but have just under 100 successful landings. I often have to retarget a few times, but I'm using Lased Mark Points for targeting, and a variety of munitions. Thanks to all the great advice here, and a big thanks to all the awesome training videos out there... this beast can be flown!! Thanx especially for videos by ExcessiveHeadspace and ralfidude... they helped immensely!! So for all the other Noobs out there... stay at it... there is hope yet. A few hundred more hours, and I might be close to getting up to speed!!! :) Matz (Forgot to mention the great videos by Fish as well!) Humvee28 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Sounds really good and a lot of Fun to me. Congrats Matz. It´s always a good Feeling when you start to master the things. I´ve settled up on the Ka-50 now and after learn to fly the Shark only (better said hold him in the Air :D ) i´m now starting to attack Targets while moving with the whole Arsenal of it. So best wishes and much more Fun for you on the next Steps. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My System-Specs @ SysProfile Real Pilots need "No Mark". :D

dburne Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I hear ya, and congrats! I have been going through the training missions over, and over, and over. I now can get the A-10 started up from cold, and into the air without any problems. I have also done the takeoff and basic handling, and am currently doing the navigation training. I am not as far along as you, but hope to be here soon. I really look forward to the day I can fly to a target area, blow some stuff up, and return home safely. Every little bit I learn, and learn well enough that it becomes somewhat automatic for me, motivates me that much more to keep on going. Rubberduck Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Nice to see Matz, grats bro :) I too am getting the landing bit sorted, doesn't help at all that I get a 10 sec stutter as I cross the threshold, but I won't be able to blame that when I get my new rig hopefully :) Best Regards Nigel AKA Rubberduck My Dad- Always check for paper before sitting down....:music_whistling: Win7 64bBit,Intel® Core i7x4-3820 (3.6GHz), ASUS® SABERTOOTH X79, INTEL CERTIFIED LIQUID COOLING 16GB DDR3 2400MHz, NVIDIA GeFORCE GTX 680 4GB, 240GB INTEL® 520 SERIES SSD, 2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK BLU-RAY ROM DRIVE, CORSAIR 750W ENTHUSIAST SERIES, AeroCool Touch 2000 LCD Touch Screen 4 Fan Controller Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Xtreme Audio, Hotas WH, Saitek Pro-Flight Pedals & Cougar MFD's
Warhog Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Good for you Matz. I know what you mean by this sense of accomplishment driving you further and further into the sim. It keeps feeding you to move forward. I finally got my rig up to snuff with a new graphics card and that resolved so many problems I was having try to land and find stuff to kill. I did the same as you by setting up a mission to take off, kill stuff and land. It's short and it allows me to repeat the same set of commands to target, lock on and shoot with several weapons systems and then practice the landing sequence. I don,t seem to die landing anymore but i must admit there are times when i am missing a few parts of plane when all is said and done.:music_whistling: Repetition is the key! Keep at it. Hamblue Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Matz, since you have the warthog, go to the controls section and then tune axis for both the horizontal and vertical slew control. set the saturation to about 50-70% and add some curvature. Default for me was only about 10%. After turning it up I can now search with the TGP faster and kill 6 targets with mavs in 1 pass. The LT Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I have about 30 hours of flight-time and I'm also learning stuff, coincidentaly, I also left the countermeasures stuff for later. Still have to polish the CDU interface and navigation settings, markpoints, etc. etc. A lot to go but damn it is fun! If I had to pick one thing that made the biggest difference in my flying to this point, getting more acquainted with the CDU was it. Still not 100% at using it by any means, but knocking the sharp edges off of it, and getting the general concept of most of it's features down help a lot!! Happy flying!! Once you start blowing stuff up with precision will really light your learning fire! The LT Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I managed to score my first aerial kill in the campain. An Su-25T. You can not imagine the exhiliration! I was going NUTS! Even made a forum post about it. Haven't had so much fun since my Warbirds days in 2000-2001. :) Great to know I'm not the only one having so much fun. The feeling of accomplishment this sim gives you is mind blowing. Drop me a PM if you ever need a wingman, I'll probably start trying out multiplayer sometime soon, flying a mission in formation with a real pilot should make for a whole new experience! :) My controls & seat Main controls: , BRD-N v4 Flightstick (Kreml C5 controller), TM Warthog Throttle (Kreml F3 controller), BRD-F2 Restyling Bf-109 Pedals w. damper, TrackIR5, Gametrix KW-908 (integrated into RAV4 seat) Stick grips: Thrustmaster Warthog Thrustmaster Cougar (x2) Thrustmaster F-16 FLCS BRD KG13 Standby controls: BRD-M2 Mi-8 Pedals (Ruddermaster controller) BRD-N v3 Flightstick w. exch. grip upgrade (Kreml C5 controller) Thrustmaster Cougar Throttle Pilot seat
Maachine Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Hang in there... It only gets cooler the more you learn! It's a really fine (and challenging) Sim! i played the old lomac and original flaming cliffs years ago (played it for a couple of years) so i think my learning curve will be a little bit higher. thanks for the encouragement though and good luck. cool to see people so excited about their accomplishments.
Maachine Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 hey i saw someone sent you a video when i was accepting your friend request. it was the low fly valley sam kill video. awesome vid. anyway i just did some low valley flying and flew a valley into batumi for a landing. it went pretty good. i set up the ILS and ended up just doing a visual landing which went great. i couldnt follow the ILS because i accidentally turned the ILS switch to off. almost had it right. you have a PM coming your way

Maachine Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 ya after my landing i stopped the aircraft and looked around the cockpit to figure out what went wrong. first thing i checked was the ILS switch and i turned it off.
