I have an X-52 (just normal version). I've tried refueling numerous times, watched videos. Attempted to trim, but then when I get close, I just start bobbing up and down and have trouble controlling the speed of the aircraft. I'm not sure if the X-52 has the precise control of the throttle that is necessary. For those of you that have an X-52, how do you refuel? This is so difficult...

Thanks!

I had problem doing it for over a year, then a friend told me to set my x52 curvatures (in game) for the pitch/roll/rudder to 22.

Loaded up a refuel test mission, from 1000lbs to full with only one disconnect, it's much, much nicer have finer movement.

Don't get too frustrated over the aerial refueling, it's by far the hardest thing to achieve in this sim, in my opinion.

Personally that was the last thing I tackled when I was learning to fly the hog. Even after 2 years I still have hard times doing a complete refueling without disconnecting.

Basicly AAR is formation flying so a good training might be to set a simple mission in the Mission Editor with one or several other A-10C (not in your group) and trying to maintain formation with them.

It's funnier to fly in formation with other hogs than gettting frustrated at AAR and ending up shooting the tanker :P

Yeah you need a lot of practise, tweaking your stick will help but do not expect miracles. You have to train again and again!

Yea, back when I had the X-52, I had a really tough time refueling. I had no choice but to add a curve. After that, I was able to refuel finally, but it still tough.

Let's just say that after upgrading to an X-65, refueling became vastly easier...

Another thing I might say is if you have pilot-induced oscillation, you are probably not anticipating your aircraft enough. You need to think ahead of what your aircraft is currently doing, and correct for increases/decreases in speed/altitude a little BEFORE they actually happen.

I think the biggest disadvantage we simmers have is that we can't feel how the aircraft reacts to inputs. We have to rely on visual feedback (ias, pitch, roll, ...). You can't feel that the aircraft is slightly accelerating or decelerating.

I used the X-52 throttle for years for close formation jet aerobatics, so it definitely is precise enough. Add in generous curve, it really helps, and practice (lots of it!).

In addition to what the others said, I will add a one more advice: You should not to fixate your sight to the boom and TVV, but to the silhouette of the tanker itself. This helped me a lot.
