Instead of the using odd keyboard input or mouse click in my BlackShark pit I decided to dig out my old X-Keys keyboard and programme it. I know it is not very realisitic compared to the authentic pit builders standards but it does give me greater immersion and efficiency when flying.

For those who have never heard of the X-Keys board. It is a simple programmable keyboard. Mine is very old so needs a PS2 type keyboard connected to it. Each key can be programmed with single or multiple key strokes. So refuel to 100% can be one simple tap.

Happy flying

I'm not using an X-keys. It's a Genovation 682 programmable keypad (35 x2 keys) that I use for the UFC & other key assignments on it's second layer. Same principal as the x-key keypad though. Works for me.

Trubshaw, nice job labeling those keys, I like it.

Yup, using an X-Keys for DCS comms and additional function like some external views, etc. It's a great -- if expensive -- piece of hardware. One annoyance, though, is that using modifier commands (e.g. LCtrl-LShift-P) requires some manual editing of the config file to insert pauses between key presses, as after the 1.1.0.9 DCS A-10C beta, the DCS series does not recognize modifier keypresses sent from outside the sim without inserting pauses between the key presses (at least on my system).

Thanks GregP

I am using the PS2 version and I dont have to edit any config file....I wouldn't know how to! but I simply programmed the whole X-Keys board to do 'slow transmission' and that seems to work.

You pit looks great thanks for attaching the photo. Do you fly anything other than the A10?

Happy flying.

These days the DCS series are the only flight sims I put time into; I've bought them all. I also do racing sims by removing the lower touchscreen and replacing it with a steering wheel; and I play a few FPS/RPG games too.

But my flight sim setup is really flexible for the DCS series, because each module (aside from CA) lets me arrange the T-shaped render area that I display on my 4 screens.

In a practical sense, though, the only sim I really spend much time on these days is A-10C, simply from a lack of time.

So, in a very roundabout way, I suppose my answer is "no, not really." :)
