Now the night time one looks a lot more dificult!! Lets just say i landed 10 feet underneath a runway trying to land in the thunderstorm at night , in the practice mission ,for the night time refueling.:joystick: (H+RSHIFT for nv goggles.you're gonna need them). Zeke Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Just a heads up on the night mission. I've flown it three times now and can't get an ILS approach from the ATC. It's not easy trying to find that runway, better have a better plan to get back on the ground.

A few miles before reaching, turn perpendicular to the desired runway approach track. Intercept ILS and land. Dont care for the ATC. The ATC in the game is not only very limited, it also doesnt comply with usual ICAO radio regulations.
Zeke Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 There is no TACAN at the airport, and the ILS won't work. I think because the ATC keeps given permission to land at the wrong side of the runway. We're talking about Kabuleti. For some reason in that mission the ILS won't come online.
mr_mojo97 Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Cheers for the info guys. Actually I'm also having an issue with the sim crashing in this mission only. Not a CTD but just stopping. The first time I tried it was fine then the subsequent times I was getting bored waiting to get to WP5 when I was fast forwarding it crashed. Doesn't do that on ay other missions though. Don't need my keyboard for NVG's as I mapped my NVIS lights ALL panel to it. As far as I'm aware NVIS isn't employed in sim. Oh, and because I have the campaign I don't have the practice mission - that is only in the singular mission for now. There is no need to worry, just approach the airfield, join the traffic pattern for your runway of choice and land, but consider that this just works on VMC condition. best regards Longi...... Longbow116 Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 (edited) better have a better plan to get back on the ground. in cases like this, u can use other VOR's from airfields in the near of yours. keep in mind in which direction your airfield is relative from the VOR and fly there, thats it! kung-fu ;) im busy now for a longer explanation, but u can try this: fly to a airfield wirh TCN eg.44X and than intercept the outbound course to your airfield and watch miles to fly ....you can't miss it! if you know the area around your airfield, so u also can navigate from groundmark to groundmark, bridges, hills, towns, and so on....follow street or river, there are many ways to get ur a.... back home :doh: cu Longi Edited January 21, 2013 by Longbow116

Right, but that's the problem in this mission, you can't see anything since the weather is so bad.

The first time I flew this, I tried landing for 2 hours, when gas got low I went to Batumi and landed there. But I failed the mission since you can't fly outside a zone. But I know what Mojo said about the since of accomplishment, you really do get that with these missions, I was able to refuel each time and it felt great. I'm still trying to figure out a way to land at Kabuleti using offset waypoints and such, tried it out in a practice mission and had some success.
snafup Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Its a tough one. The practice one starts in the clouds with the rain and lightning. If you don't spot the tanker right off with goggles you need to enable tcan to find it. Once you're done, you dial koubileti tower and get a heading to start going back to land. The channel for that tacan is 67x. The ceiling is so low that I overflew the runway by watching the miles run down, keeping an eye on altitude, and circled around and made a horrible bouncing wheel popping landing.(the atc diverts you to runway 25, so you can dial in that heading).

Traffic pattern for prob 10 times trying to find runway - found finally, landed perfectly then stopped. 2 mins to shutdown. Going well. 30 seconds. No bother I say. FAILED!!!!!! My EGI switch didn't switch off on my pit panel. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. oceanoftimeGER Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I admit I've been flying the Hog for more than 1.5 years now but yesterday was the first time I've ever attempted aerial refueling! Definitely a lot of fun, it took me about 2 hours and 5 new tankers to get it right! Now I can't wait to fly 'Hideout', my favorite mission, and actually use the tanker! :) Congratulations to all of you guys for completing AAR successfully!
