CharlieChap Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) Recently purchased FC3 and loving it on the whole.... But having a bit of a problem with the F15 campaign. (I know that there are fix's coming for this in the next patch....but this is a little wider than that) I had to replay the first mission ( an orientation flight) about 7 times before it would advance to the next mission...I could only get it to do it eventually by flying the whole thing on autopilot :( This brings me onto what I suppose is the main point. In a simulation do people really enjoy being forced to repeat a missions X number of times until they hit every criteria before being able to advance to the next one ?...I know I don't , its always struck me as more of a legacy from old platform titles where you unlock bonus X or Y. If I take damage and manage to land or fire all of my ordinance and my wingman is down there is no point in remaining in a hot zone. These can be quite sensible decisions (landing a damaged aircraft is one of the most exciting situations and can require the highest level of skill..) , yet one is still forced to repeat the same mission again and again until hitting every trigger, shooting down or bombing every enemy , waiting for the ground strike (that may have been lost o circumstances outside of player control etc...) Perhaps there is a setting that I have missed ?. Just wanted to post this as there is nothing more certain to put me off a title and ensure that I drift away from playing it (however good it is , and DCS is astonishing at this point...) as getting to a point in something and then having to repeat it again and again and again and again...ad infinitum. After a certain point its impossible not to loose interest and get frustrated..not good for the title, not good for personal satisfaction in relation to a title is it. This is a simulation, its not about points, its not about getting through levels so this system seems extremely anachronistic and really detracts from the campaigns. A small change (and it could be an option) so that if you land (or survive) a mission you automatically advance to the next one would make a huge difference to the fun factor of DCS as an offline experience. KLR Rico Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I found how it fails to advance regardless of win/loss to be strange too. From what I remember, the A-10C campaign continues on either way, your mission success rate is impacted, but you'll still make it all the way through. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
ApoNOOB Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 In the first mission I had the same problem, but after a few times, after waiting for my wingman and flying absolutely only over wps it finally worked. But on the second mission where I have to protect a flight that attacks sam's - it just doesn't want to advance. :/ I kill every jet that approaches (more then once!) but it seems like they can't complete their objective. :(
TopRock Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Just wait until the 5th or 6th mission where its an alert mission and you take off into 6 MiG's/SU's while your wingmen are trying to remove their thumbs from their arses. BARCAP my ass.
CharlieChap Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 It sounds as if this problem maybe really specific to the F15 campaign then currently going on KLR Rico's post :-( Will put it on hold until the next patch then and see if that fix's things (it is a beta so its fair enough to run into hiccups). Its too frustrating though currently for my temperament. There is plenty to do in the QMB fortunately isn't there but its not the same.... That aside its a tremendously exciting time for DCS despite this 'slightly bumpy' time isn't it. Very much looking forward to Beczl's Mig21, the Huey and the little Hawk in the future :-)
jspec3 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Hi - Wanted to bump this thread instead instead of making a new one. Does someone know if the mission 'scramble - airbase defense' (F15C-04.miz) will be getting another look? Right now it really seems like there's no way to win; by the time you get airborne there's already either a su-24 screaming above the base leading to the 'mission failed, enemy strike aircraft have reached your base' message, or you're in a dogfight with all kinds of enemy aircraft while your wingmen are still getting off the runway. It seems like maybe it could use a little tweaking to give you more time, or if the idea is there really is no way to stop the attack and it's part of the storyline, then you should at least be able to move on to the next mission.
I2obiN Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Hey jspec I also had trouble with this mission. Ended up beating it on the 5th try or so. Can't remember exactly what I did but I believe it was a case of just bombing it up into the air as fast as possible and taking out the su-24s first before all others. If I recall I just flew defensive once the su-24s went down to allow my wingmen to get in the air. I remember thinking it was a bit ridiculous how close they were to the base, but it can be done. I'm still stuck on this campaign myself, I'm currently on the mission that requires you to fly a CAP deep into enemy territory to take out a flight of Su-25 variants guarded by two SU-30s. I have done the mission so many times now. Eliminated all enemies and hit all waypoints, eliminated all enemies and then hit bullseye. Finally I have mastered it so well that I have now just done it without losing a single wingman, they're all tucked away in their hangars nicely. Still not getting a mission complete unfortunately. I have flown all over the map to see if it triggers any new enemies but it doesn't seem to. I just get locked up by SAMs and most of the time shot down or turning tail and pegging it back to the mountains. Still crazy good fun, it's hilarious to watch the SU-25s run like mice once the missiles start to fly. Sure your wingman will occasionally ram a missile up your engines, but that's part of the fun lool
jspec3 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Hey thanks for the reply - I think you've got a little more perseverance than I do. I hope they revisit the mission before it's out of beta, it seems a little crazy right now- and they revisit the one you're on too, from the sound of it!
HiJack Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 There are issues with missiles, FC3 is still beta. The AI teamkills also now so I would wait with the campaign for now. Do the instant action on F-15 in stead ;)

blkspade Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The campaign missions are currently even harder with the broken missile performance. I rarely get killed by the friendly AI, but thats probably due to mostly knowing how to use them with active missiles in mind. My real problem with AI wingmen is that they suck at fuel management. They are screaming bingo, while I'm still at around 10,000 lbs of fuel. Then they refuse to go to the tanker when I tell them to, and eventually just run their tanks dry and eject. I did do a lot of the missions before 1.2.3 however and do have some tips for getting past that scramble mission. Get yourself off of the ground ASAP and don't worry about your wingmen. Next orbit behind your airfield and scan for the SU-24s each time you come around. Focus on the strikers once you've ID'd them, and only engage their escort if they get close enough to you to become a problem. With any of your wingmen airborne, give them specific targets to engage and have one of them cover you. The most important thing to do in this mission is to stick very close to your group of airfields and try to mainly engage the strikers when they've gotten close. http://104thphoenix.com/
