wolle Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Here are the instructions you get prompted with when starting the mission. Key point is less than 300 ft through/around gates. Hi sslechta, Thanks for your reply. I've seen the instructions, the problem is I don't understand them when I comes to the slalom gates. I understand you need to be below 300 feet as you pass the double gates, i.e. in the instant in time that you are between the double gates you must be below 300 feet. But how about the slalom (single) gates. At what instant in time do you need to be below 300 feet. Is there a certain range around the slalom gate that you must hit at less than 300 feet? sslechta Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Not a problem. I think Shahdoh had told me you just need to be within the distance of two of those single gates close AND under 300 ft. to get a registered time on that gate. In other words you don't have to be real close, just be low enough in passing the gate to trigger it. SnowTiger Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 You must be at or below 300 feet when you pass any of the gates or uprights. Basically, your cockpit must be below the top of each tower to maintain that altitude. Anything higher than that when you pass the singles or go through the doubles, will be scored as a miss. So when doing the slalom gates, you must be below their peaks as you pass each. Between each you can be as high up as you want. The lower the better throughout the course us best IMO. Shahdoh Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 Thanks Sslechta and Snowtiger for helping explain, they are spot on. As to exactly when the trigger area is, its at the moment you would pass the pylon (in the intended direction). I am using polygon shaped trigger areas so there is a straight line between the 2 pylons or in the case of the single pylons, straight out for about 350-400 ft, cant remember the exact distance, but, it gives you some room to swing wide, but not to excessively. If you have any other questions, you can usually catch me on the VTA Teamspeak server in the evenings (GMT -7). /Salute 1
SnowTiger Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Thanks for that answer re: Reputation. I was a bit worried for a minute considering others have more posts but less reputation. I was thinking maybe it meant I had a Bad Reputation for something !!!! PS> I apologize for asking an Unrelated Question in this Thread. wolle Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I have a question regarding the Immelman turn that we are supposed to do at the end of the first leg of the course. Is this a must (does the mission code somehow check for whether an Immelmann was performed), or can one also do a simple (in-plane) turn? Which is faster, Immelmann or in-plane turn? Chippy Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 (edited) Got a crap time, but was my 2nd time on the course :P Edited March 10, 2013 by Chippy [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Shahdoh Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 There is no code that does the check. When I first set it up, was preferring the Immelman be used, but have relaxed a bit on that. I do find that it depends on the aircraft. The P-51 really needs the Immelman to be able to get energy back for the return trip. The jets with afterburners can just flat turn and throw the burners on and get their energy back whenever they need. So, atm it's whatever gets you around the fastest with the most energy for the return. Have fun and good luck. /Salute
theGozr Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Airbull aerobatics style of races are perfect fort very agile quick aircraft but for Jets or heavier craft ( like in Cliffs of Dover with the SU-26 ) I think it would even better if a Trophy race like "Schneider Trophy" or a "Solent-based course" air racing http://www.airrace.org/at_the_races/course.php SFM aircraft participating on a airbull acro race would be just pointless. Sorry F15's Mig's and SU27 :) but doing a Trophy race"" would be perfect for all over an airport base not water. If you guys can make some nice setup missions map races like I described it would be fantastic for the community and online races. Please if you do post a link where we can download. ( I did years ago for the SU25 ).. We could then choose one to be a mission for DCS :) Thanks Cross country navigation races are hell of fun as well. limited fuel etc. Fly it like you stole it..

Have you even tried to fly the Batumi course? My long term goals have always been to create a variety of courses to include the types you described. Though I see the time trials versus the Reno style races like comparing Nascar ovals to F1 road courses. Do you like driving/flying in circles or do you want some twists and turns? Right now, my main stumbling block is my lack of knowledge with the lua coding to do what I want in the races. Yes it can be done with triggers, quite a few courses out there like that already, but you are stuck with their limited selection, and any addition of aircraft requires a decent amount of work to add them in. My Batumi course will accept any aircraft you can fly in DCS World, yes, only 1 at a time atm with my current knowledge of the code, but I know it can do much more and am working on figuring it out. /salute
SnowTiger Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I'd like to add that it is an Excellent Course which provides an excellent means to learn tight controls with the P51 (for which the course was designed). I learned allot in a short period of time flying this ample course. Thanks for all you do Shahdoh. theGozr Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Shahdoh :) nothing to do with the course.. love it great work.. Just to me SFM craft are a no go, this will change as soon as the F15 and SU-27 new AFM will be released. Just to me SFM aircraft are good for air systems fights not flying ;). Fly it like you stole it..
TX-EcoDragon Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) I'm loving that we can haul @$$ in a high fidelity Mustang around a race track! Thanks again for your work on this Shadoh! I'd dig a Reno Style track packed with competitors, where each player has their times tracked, but I'm not sure it would be as exciting solo. A longer range endurance race where navigational accuracy and power system management factor in more would be fun too. You should make one GOZR! :-D Thus far my best time on the Batumi track in the P-51 is 171.55 [EDIT: Time now down to 171.26] Edited May 22, 2013 by TX-EcoDragon S! TX-EcoDragon

Your time is quite good, I'm stuck with 176 (without WEP) and I'm not able to make it any better :( Are you flying it with WEP enabled? Thanks! Yes, I discovered the e key a few days ago. I hit 175 something without it but the main thing for me is the line through the course. I think there are a few more seconds waiting for me at the gates where the vertical is used...ie being as close to vertical when hitting them. Edited May 22, 2013 by TX-EcoDragon S! TX-EcoDragon
Shahdoh Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Reno and canyon run type races are on the to do list but I am having troubles with tracking multiple aircraft. I am just not familiar enough with Lua for the table creation/updates/access needed to accurately track multiple aircraft on the course. It is something I am working on though, its only a matter of time. Thanks for your interest in the tracks. On another note, I have updated the Tbilisi course to track by the players name and also allow the helos to fly the course. Jets are still having a problem flying the course due to the size of the course, but the P51 and helos are a blast. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/273380/ Current records for the Batumi course that I am aware of: P51 - 163.76 (Shahdoh) Su-27 - 116.87 (=[:-)]= MI1T)
