Oh yes, the Wiki has gotten quite nice. I have folder full of documents like that (been accumulating them for quite some time now), some I like better than others.

If you are using a keybaord command reference chart from any source, try to locate a version number. Hopefully, the Wiki is fairly up to date but the commands have changed a bit from one version to another. I usually make my own keyboard chart for each new version just to be sure.

The problem I'm having trying to bind my HOTAS is that I can't understand the phraseology that is being used to describe a lot of the various functions of the different control buttons, as on the HOTAS and other areas.

For example in FC3 command list the AUTOPILOT='A', the use of the actual action is the description of the command. In A-10C for example, I'm looking to bind the AUTOPILOT but I don't see a description of the action. I do see where the button gets pressed near the throttle to activate the A/P and the 3 options avaialble. I can manually select it with my mouse but prefer to have it bind to my HOTAS.:helpsmilie:

As well any custom settings such as snap views and sound modding has been over written when I installed V1.2.3.

So at least I know to back up all those files first whenever an update is available.

Hi there,

last first: There should be a BAK folder in the DCS World folder under Programms, which should contain all your "modded" files...

For the HOTAS issue, do the Training mission for the HOTAS and read a bit about the HOTAS keys workings in the flight manual. Especially you need to understand the concept of SOI (Sensor Of Interest) and the difference between as example TMS up SHORT and TMS up LONG :D

There is no such thing as an Autopilot button that automatically flies your A-10C from A-B.

Autopilot (EAC) has three different modes of whome you select one first. (ALT/HDG - fly straight and hold altitude, correct for crosswind; PATH - hold the current angle of attack and fly to where the nose points, no corrections for wind; ALT - bank and hold altitude to circle the plane when you need to do "stuff").

EAC has requirements to be usable (EGI,SAS, RDR ALT etc.) and each mode can be activated only under certain conditions (AoA below 5°, bank less than 15°, etc.) and sometimes the EAC has difficulty to stabilize the plane (e.g. if you trimmed it wrong).

When you hear "Autopilot" from Betty it actually means "Autopilot was disengaged" :music_whistling: The bell sound indicates autopilot was engaged and you can check the mode on the HUD, left side below the * Indicator for HUD as SOI.

cichlidfan: I'll try and see if what I have is the most up to date but there sure is some great info.

shagrat: Thanks for the info, I'm beginning to see that I have to put away my old ideas of sims and approach A-10C from a totally different perspective...meaning this is s real sim and everything else was a game version.

Thanks again to both of you.

Indeed. Anytime I try to explain the depth of DCS to people they really don't get it until they get a good look at it.

The game needs a "mods" folder. All files are read from there first, and if a file exists, the game reads that file instead of the default file. Super- simple to implement and makes modding so much simpler.

They are in the process of implementing changes to allow mods to be placed in the Saved Games folder. We just aren't all the way there yet. ;)
